Messrs Jessie Bounds and Leonard
Brooks, who were reported lost in the
Sluslaw mountains, have returned
home. In their rambles they found
hunting unexpectedly good and they
stayed a couple of days over-time.
Mrs. Alice Harris, formerly a
waitress at the Hotel McClallen, passed
through here on the local train this
morning from Canyonville, where she
had been visiting with relatives, en
route to Pendleton, where she will ac
cept a position in another hotel.
Third Baseman Ernest Bradley, for
merly of Boseburg, was given his first
try-out with the Portland "Browns'
Tuesday. He gathered in the only
ball that came hi way and secured one
safe hit. None of the Portland news
papers comment on his initial appearance.
Two Companlesof the Coast artillery,
consisting of 200 men, passed through
here on a special train this morning en-
route to Fort Ward, Washington
They have been stationed in the
Philippines for the past seventeen
months. The Moro tribes of Mindanao
are reported as still being trouble
some.
Rev. Arthur Lane is the guest of his
uncle, Simon Lane, and wife, of this
city. Father Lane has been stationed
at North Yakima, Wash-, for the past
several months, but was recently as
signed to the pastorate at Jacksonville,
Or. He will renraln here for several
days before proceeding to his new lo

Bengtson, 8 local tuilor, who skipped
the town, has been withdrawn by Mr. j
Newland. Yesterday Bengtson's for-j
nier partner, Mr. Boyce, returned to
Roseburg from his outing and made
good the amount of money called for In
worthless bank cheek by which
Bengtson luduced Newland to advance
nim & and out of which the charge
originated. The warrant issued for
Bengtson's arrest has accordingly been
withdrawn. Bengtson left behind some
tailoring paraphernalia which, in value,
will partially cover the amount which
Mr. Boyco expended to save him from
imprisonment, fortunately Bengtson s
escapade will in nowise injuro the busi
ness reputation of the establishment,
with which he is no longer connected,
as Mr. Boyce enjoys the full confidence
and high regard of a large noraber of
patrons.
