Special to Evening Review. Suez, July 19. The steamer Malacca, owned by the Oriental Steamship Co., which was seized by the Russians in the Red Sea last week, arrived here today, commanded and manned by Russians. The British company's agent here was refused admittance on board the vessel. COMPLICATIONS PEAKED. London, July 19. There is a well detined feeling in all quarters this morning that the seizure of theBritish German steamer at Suez by the Russi ans marks the first. European complica tion during the Russo-Japanese war. It is feared that this action will lead to serious complications with the powers involved. TWO VESSELS PASSED, Constantinople, July 19. The Porte has authorized two additional Russian volunteer cruisers to pass through the Dardanelles. RECENT LOSSES REPORTED. . London, July lit. A dispatch from Gen. Kurokl today states that the Russian losses in the light at Motion Ling were 2000, while those of the Japanese will not exceed 300. with the union miners. The merchants have withdrawn their advertisments, stopped their subscriptions and have in other ways instituted war against the News. Not content with this, how ever, the Denver morchaots have car ried their war into the Cripple Creek district and boycotted the retail deal ers who have been guilty of selling goods to the union miners and their families. Commenting on this con dition of atTairs, the Washington Post says: "The Post has already briefly dis cussed the situation in Colorado and has found no roason to abandon its original contention that both parties to the controversy that has resulted in loss of life, destruction of property, and disgrace to the state have been guilty of gross wrongs. Members of the minors' union have been deprived of their liberty and property without due process of law. They have been banished from the state without rea son other than the owners of the mines controlled the state political machinery and the militia. They have been accused of crimes and adjudged guilty by their accusers, by men placed in otliee by the militia after the rog ulary elected otllclals hud been re moved without regard to the law or tJ their rights. Sheridan reached home this morning from St. Louis where he attended the National Democratic Con vention as a delegate from Oregon. He was one of the four Oregon delegates who supported Judge Par ker for the nomination, thjO other throe beiug Gov, Chamberlain, C. E. I led Held and F, V. Holman. or tho others, J. D. Matlock and S, M. Gar land voted for Hearst, James Gloason for McClellan, and W. P. Butcher for Bird S. Color. To a Review rep resentative Mr. Sheridan practically repeated his statements as given in Monday's Portland Journal, as follows: "My strongest impressions of the convention? Well, perhaps the thing that struck mo most forcibly was the iniluenceof Mr. Bryan. His personality curried far more weight than that of No one else could quiet the convention. It seems that the mining corpora tion! that are standing behind the militia and the republican state ad ministration are really the governing power of Colorado and are carrying things with high hand. Pllnn Cooper's place, seven mi lea south of town, are progressing nicely, according to a statement made by Mr. Cooper while In conversation with a Rkvikw reporter today.
