Two of those four swats were two suckers by Radford, and each time they were made Clynrs was sent across the plate for Eugene's only two runs. Not one Eugeneite was given a free pass to the iirst station, but Clynes managed to get in front of the ball on two occasions, thereby securing Reed's only two gifts. The aggregation behind Reed pUyed like anything but. hospital inmates, but Roeeburg was six runs to the good. Inning six was also a painful one for Eugene. Rupert managed to hit a sufe one for the Iirst cushion. Bilyeu hit to Nefzger, who overthrew second in try ing to head off Rupert. Nefzger then lilled the bases by giving Shaw free transportation to first. Newell hit a slow one to Downing, and the third baseman threw wild to llrst letting in Rupert and Bilyeu. The excitement and disorder through out this district, resulting from the terrible dynamite outrage at Independ ence last Monday, by which 20 men were killed and crippled, are gradually subsiding, and an attempt is being made today to rostoro normal conditions. Employers in all branches of business in this city, without an exception so far asyet canvassed, have signed the agree ment prepared by the Citizens' Alliance, "not to employ help of any kind that is in any way connected with the District Trades Assembly, or the Stale Federa tion of Lalwr, the American Labor Union, or the Western Federation of Minors, or any kindred organization." The agreement of the proprietors has caused consternation among the clerks and employes in shops and Btores who are members of the Retail Clerks', Har bors', Carpenters', Bartenders', Cooks and other trado unions, as all will have to resign from the unions to hold their positions. Some figures have been compiled as to the cost of the Colorado strikes fur tho past 10 months, the estimates going as high as $23,000,000.
