more. At noon today the liepublican
county headqiurters had "stopped try
ing to tigure" how badly these candi
dates wore beaten.
With tho exception of Uocd, Stott,
and probably Courteney, tho entire
Republican ticket was elected iu thiBj
county. This result was a foregone
conclusion, for tho Democrats had no
oxtectatlon of defeating any but the
three candidates named.
John Munuiug, the Democratic nomi
nee for district attorney, has been
elected by a majority that Republicans
place at 5,000. His victory is all the
moro signal for the reason that it was
won in a straight light against his He
publican opHncnt with no other candi
date in the Held.
Tom Word's spectacular race for
sheriff landed him a winner overall his
live competitors by a plurality that is
figured all the way from 4,000 to 5,000.
Stott, the Republican nominee, is a
hopeless second, and received the small
est vote of any candidate on the whole
Republican county ticket.
C. W. Nottingham, Independent Re
publican, who mado a single handed
contest for the state senate against A.
K. Courteney, the machine nominee,
made a most remarkable ran and is
probably elocled by a small margin.
