The committee on street improve-M. ments wore requested to look after some leuking tire hydrants and culverts on Mill and Kane streets where rotted wooden drains should be replaced with tiling. The matterof the proposed establish ment of a sewer between Mill and Pine streets, from Floed to Burke, was dropped for the time being, owing1 to the expense of some of the property owners utTeeted by the pending improve-1 metit of Mill streot. Rioting broke out In this city this afternoon while a mass meeting was being held to discuss the murder of 15 nonunion miners by means of an infernal machine at Independence. Forty shots were fired into a crowd In the streot. One man was killed, another died In the hospital and eight persons, at least, In jured. There are now 300 union miners in the bull pen and others are being rounded up. Tho sheriff, the military authorities and the mineowners now openly slate that a wholesale doporta thm of union miners will occur, al though they do not state when. Councilman Norman asked Mr. Bar zee what percentage the K. O. T. M were going to get nut of the Carnival shows, and Mr. Barzee replied that they would receive 15 per cent of the gross receipts, but the expense which ihe lodge had assumed would probably leave no margin of profit.
