Dexter Rice was appointed on the oommittce on platform and resolutions, and Atty. Frank G. Mlcelll waB chosen as mem ber of the state central committee for Douglas county. Ira Applegate, 28 years of age, was committed to the state asylum for the Insane after an examination at Yoncalla Thursday by Judge M. D. Thompson and Dr. Twitchell. This Is Applegate'a third committment, the first occuring when he was eighteen years of age and second three years later, having been , confined only a year on the first occa sion. His was discharged from bis second committment about four years, ago. The nature of his insanity la religiouB mania. A hearing to determine the owner ship of 40 acres ot valuable land at. Ruckles was in progress here today be fore Receiver J. H. Booth of the U. S. land office. The contestants are Mrs. M. J. Moore and Frank Rose. The land Involved was included In a donaJ lion land claim taken up by Mrs. Moore's husband, now deceased, about 30 years ago, but when a patent was issued to Mr. Moore by the govern ment, the 40 acres was Inadvertently omitted from the premises described. Frank Rose, the other party in the contest, has filed a homestead entry on the land, a portion of which contains a fine orchard of prune and apple trees, owned by Mrs. Moore's son, W. N. Moore.
