Drake returned this afternoon from Glendale, Mr. Brown states that a party of about 25 people are now steadily engaged n hunting for Mrs. Drake's missing hus band. A farewell reception will be tendered Rev. S. A. Douglas and wife at the Baptist church next Monday afternoon from two to five o'clock. The guests amused themselves with the games of flowers, flinch and plug pong and were treated to some vocal and instrumental music until midnight, when refreshments were served. The home ot Miss Regina Rast was the scene of a very pleasant assembling of young people last night, the occasion being a formal farewell to Misses Addle and Ella Schmidt, who leave in a day or two for San Francisco to reside. The guests amused themselves with the games of pit and flinch. They were also treated to some vocal and instru mental music. Refreshments were served. Besides the guests of honor, those present were: Misses Flossie Shambrook, Klva Wimberly, Anna and Bessie Wharton, Echo G add la, Veil Barker, Lillle Crlteser, Myrtle Coch ran, and Mrs. W. K. Frazior, of Albany; Messrs. Elmer Wimberly, Warren Mc- Willtams, Sam Josephson, Lester Bell, Jas. Sawyers, Earl Gaddis, John Rob inson and Milo Atterbury. Capt. W. E. Morrow of the Rose burg Baseball club left this afternoon for Salem to attend the meeting of the Oregon State League. At thii meet ing will be decided whether four or six clubs are to form the league and a schedule will be drawn up accordingly. Before leaving, Capt. Morrow stated that he would advocate at the meeting only a four-club league with three games a week. It is not likely that Albany will be represented at the meeting, so it will be left to the dele gates from Roseburg, Salem and Eu gene to transact the business. In case a four-club league Is decided upon, Oregon City will probably be taken in, as that is the nearest town of any consequence that could support a good team. Mrs. J. T. Bridges and Mrs. A. C. Marsters very charmingly entertained , a number of their young lady friends I this afternoon, at the beautiful home I of the former in honor of the young I lady teachers of the Roseburg public , schools. The reception rooms were tastefully and handsomely decorated I for the occasion, the parlor being in royal purple and green and the library ; in red and green. The combination of violet's with wisteria and other vines, j and the intermingling of red carnations I with smilax produced very charming ! effects. The guests of honor were the ! following teachers: Misses Clarke, Cook, Krickson, Thompson, Aiken, j Parrott, Kabat, Aldrich, Stewart, Byers, Hatfield, Stuart, Kidder. The local lodge of the Modorn Broth erhood of America held a 9ecial and important meeting at its ball last night, pursuant to the request of Special Organizer W. J. Applegate, of Portland, who bas secured about 30 applications for membership during his canvass in Roseburg. Fifteen of these applicants were initiated into the lodge lost night and the remalningones will be taken in at the regular meeting next Monday. Besides the initiations last night, two drill teams were orga nized one of ladies and the other of gentlemen and primary instructions were given them by the drill master of the Eugene lodge, who was present. J Harry E. Miller was ele cted captain of the gentlemen's team at.d Mrs. L. M. Ross captain of the ladies' team, After the transaction of business the ' assemblage indulid in a pleasant social session, the tenure of which was a very nice luncheon. Although this lodge was organized only three weeks ago, It now has membership numbering 48. This does not include the fifteen new mem tiers to be initiated next Monday evening.
