The Russian fleet is reported as having been withdrawn from the defense of Port Arthur leav ing the Japanese practically in control. While almost impossible to get news through the censorship, it is believed there Is heavy land fighting along the Yalu river. The Czar appeals to bis subjects to be patriotic. JAPS INVADING COREA. London, Feb. 18. Thousands of Japanese soldiers are now invading Korea. Embarkation of large numbers of them continues from the Japanese ports without any attempt at secrecy. Fifty thousand are now encode. The Russian movements are more deliberate, yet they claim to be con fident that they will be able to crush the Japanese forces when the proper time arrives. The Russians allege to have captured 150 Japanese prisoners. M. Diirmlck, of Marshfleld, who voted for both Senators Mitchell and Fulton. George W. Dlmmick, county treas urer, who has been a staunch supports' of Senator Mitchell. S. L. Moorehead, of Junction City,' who has been chief clerk of the last two sessions of the senate. James Hemenway, of Cottage Grove, who voted for Senator Mitchell at the last moment and led the break to him. Enos Dixon, Ex-Forest Supervisor, whose claim is based upon Douglas County beiog entitled to one of the of fices. Ira B. Riddle, of Riddle, who claims the promise of tbe office from Senator Fulton. All of the above have been avowed candidates for theofllce of Register and have Oiled tbeir applications early in the light for the office, but it Is under stood that they would be willing to serve their country diligently in either office. Strauss, ex-United States Minister to Turkey and vlcp-president of Ihe National Civic Federation, Sxke today of the earnestness with which Senator Hanna hud thrown . himself Into the work of the Federation and the hope fulness be bad of Its success in bringing capital and labor into closer and more harmonious relationship. "On one occasion" said Mr. Strauss, "he stated he would rather have the credit of making successful the move ment to bring labor and capital int closer relationship of conlidence and reliance than to be President of the United States. He said also that if by resigning his seat in the Senate be could bring to fruition ' the plans fostered by the Federation to make such labor troubles as strikes, lock-outs and the like impossible he was willing to do so. FORTUNE LEFT BY HANNA Cleveland, Ohio, Feb. 10. The value of the estate left by tbe late Senator Hanna Is estimated from 000,000 to $3,000,000. It is stated that he owned at least 15 per cent of tbe slock of the Cleveland Electric railway, capitalized at 23,000,C00. In addition to being largely interested in vessels and iron mining property, be was a director lu the Union National Bank, Guardian Trust Company, the People's Savings & Loan Company, of this cty, and Cleveland & Pittsburg Ruilway. He was a large stock holder in tbe American Shipbuilding and the Pitts burg Coal Company. He owned tbe Euclid Opera-Uourse in this city. He was nearly 67 yeara of age. LABOR LEADER'S TRIHUTE. Indianapolis, Feb. 10. Presldei t John Mitchell, of the United Mine Workers today paid a glowing tribute to the late Senator Hanna, reviewing at length the change of feeling towaid him by organized labor. He says in Banna's death organized labor suffered the great loss of a great mediator, whose honest purposes fearlessly car ried out were to reconcile the interests of the employers and the employes. John Alexander Dowle, tbe self-styled Elijah of the Zionist movement, originating in Chicago, had an experience he will not soon forget when be attempted to hold one of bis proselyting meetings here. There had been much advance notice of the "prophet's" coming to Sydney, and when Dowle arrived there was a mob on hand, who greeted him with hoots of derision and jeers. Undaunted, how ever, he held tbe meeting as he had announced.
