Springfield News: It is reported
from sources which are as reliable as
the majority of railroad news before
it is actually given out by the authori
ties themselves that the construction
crew of the Southern Pacific Co, which
is now somewhere In California, will
arrive here early next month and com
mence the construction of the Sprlng-ileld-Ilenderson
connecting link.
Eugene Guard: J. S. Talbott.l'of
Dallas, a civil engineer, Is engaged in
making a preliminary survey for the
proposed railroad from IJrownsville to
the Calapoota Lumber Company's saw
mill near Crawfordsville. Mr. Talboit
is employed by the lumber company to
do this work. This moans that a rail
road will be constructed up the Cala
pooia Valley at no distant date, reach
ing as far as Crawfordsville, and event
ually Into the great timber belt of the
upper Calapooia River Valley and
Hlue River Mines.
Jessie Shirley is not only one of the

Myrtle Creek News.
W. R. Lyons and family arrived here
from Louisiana, Tuesday. They are
relatives of Mr. Jackson, "the sawmill
man of North Myrtle.
W. P. Johnson has arranged to close
his sawmill operations here. The dry
ing plant will continue until the bet
ter grade of lumber has been dried.
How long the shut-down will continue
is not decided.

Mr. and Mrs. W. II. McLean died last
Saturday. The funeral service took
place here Monday and the llttlo
one was laid to rest In the Odd Fellows'
cemetery.
