Potter, head of animal husband ry, who has jiiHt completed a sulvey of the ranges in Bouth central Ore gon. A rather heavy movement of fat stuff and feeds Is expected to take place this fall. Some of tills stock will go to western markets but most of It will find Us way east. Oregon ranges are not suffering the famine conditions that have af fected several other western states litis year, Professor Potter points out. On the other hand growers in creased their Holdings under war conditions and a good surplus has been accumulated. Unless farmers take a little less for their hay there is danger that the Block will be sold so closely this year that the farmers will find It difficult to market their r;rop next year, Professor Potter thinks. Such overcrowding of ranges ai was found occurred in territory ad jacent to abundant water. In other places where watering holes are 30 miles apart a splendid crop has grown and Is going to waste. Asked why the stockmen do not develop water, Prof. Potter said: "The cost of developing water in these unused ranges will run from 5 to 1 0 cents per acre. No stockman ca nafford to pay this price unless he has some power over the range or exclusive right to use the watering privileges. With the ranges under reo-iintlons this would be feasible and greatly develop the .trying ower of the ranges. " XOTICM Persons who can offer rooms and board for teachers should notify the Superintendent, Telephone 484, by Monday, September 8th, giving na ture and, if possible, price of ac commodations.
