Passes Examination. - ' '
Jack Crafton returned last even
ing from Portland where he had been
to take the examination for entrance
in the aviation department of the
army.' He was successful in passing
the examination. :
Smith Funeral Tomorrow. '
The funeral services over the body
of the late B. C. Smith will be held
tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock
from the Roseburg Undertaking Par
lors, the services to be conducted by
the I. O. O. F. lodge with interment
in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
In City From Wilbur . '
Mrs. Inez Miller, principal of the
Wilbur schools, and Mrs. Geo. Short
were visitors to the city today from
Wilbur, having come over to attend
a meeting of the committee which is
arranging a program for home com
ing day at Wilbur which will occur
the first Saturday in June.
Visiting in City. '
Miss Olive Wilson arrived Frl-
ffiay evening from Yoncalla and will
visit with her sister, Miss Maybelle
Wilson, a local school teacher, for
several days. Miss Olive Wilson is
an instructor in the Vale schools r.d
was called to her home at Yoncalla
upon the death of her father several
days ago.
A Fine Big Hoy Arrives.
A fine big boy arirved at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barker, in
North Roseburg, this morning, Satur-
day, February 9, 1918. The grand
father of the new arrival, O. Barker
feels so spry today over the birth of
a son In the family that he is out-dis-
tanging all pedestrians on the other
side of the creek.

land where they will undergo exam
inations for service in various da

boys are undecided just what they

Will Return to Fort.
Edward Aikins, who has been vis
iting with his folks in Riddle for
the past two days, arrived in this
city this afternoon. He will , attend
the big basket ball game here this
evening and afterward will journey
to Fort Stevens. 'Mr. Aikins Is with
the 16th Columbia division of that
place, '"Which was formerly the 4th
company.
Visiting Family Here. '
Glen V. Wimberly is in the city
from Portland to remain over Sun
day with his family, air. Wimberly'
is employed in the -liberty loan head
quarters at Portland and while it is
not expected there will be a loan cam
paign launched before the 15th of
April, the headquarters will be kepi;
open, the government having desid
ed. to establish permanent offices at
Portland until further notice. Mr,
Wimberly states he is getting along
nicely with his work; and that every
thing is moving along smoothly.
Cars Collide Today.
An automobile accident occurred
this afternoon on the corner of Cass
andi Stephens streets when a Ford
bug driven by Clifford Relbel col
lided with a Buick machine that was
being driven by R. L. Gile, resulting

chine coming out with "flying col
ors. The Reibel machine was fol
lowing close behind the Gile car, and
the former, thinking that the latter
was about to "speeder up" stepped
on the accelerator and banged into
the Buick. The "bug" was towed
to a local garage for repairs. .-
