According' to information received here today the secretary of agricul ture has approvedl the co-oporative agreement for the survey and con struction of the Canyonvllle-Gal-s- ville road (Canyon creek canyon) in Douglas county, - this announcement being made by District Foretser Geo H. Cecil, of Portland, who has just received a copy of the agreement signed by the secretary. ; The Canyonville-Galesville road Is a forest road project under section 8 of the federal aid road act of July 11, 1916. It will replace a specially difficult stretch of the Pacific high way in the Cow creek cannon region, and because of its value as a military road Its early construction is impor tant. The total length of this pro ject Is 11.8 miles, in Douglas county; 8.15 miles being within the Umpqua national forest. The state highway commission of Oregon and the county commission ers of Douglas county will co-opera e with'the government in the survey and construction of the road. The estimated cost for the location sur vey and construction is $157,000. The government will pay 42.68 per cent of the final costs of survey plans, esti mates and) construction of the pro ject, and the state and county offi cials 57.32 per cent of these costs, The cost of maintenance, which is estimated at $1,600 annually will be met by the local authorities. Cau tionary and informative signs will be erected and maintained along the right-of-way by the government. District Engineer L. I. Hewes, of the office of public roads, already has a party at work making the loca tion survey for this road, which will require three or four weeks to complete. Oregon share in the $10,000,000 allotted by the government for forest roads in the national forest states under section 8 of the federal aid road act is $128,111 for 1918, and a similar amount each year until 1926. Other forest road projects In Oregon which have been approved by Secre tary Houston are 17 miles of the MedlfordtKlamath Falls road on the prater Lake national forest, in Jack- SUU UUUI1LJ, O IHllttH 111 Uie BUIIltt IUUU In Klamath county, and 9.7, miles of the Ochoco canyon road in Crook county, partly on the Ochoco national forest. - By this co-operative agreement $167,000 is to be expended for the construction of this strip of the Pa cific highway, known as the Cow Creek canyon or the Oanyon Creek canyon road. Of this amount Doug las county is required to furnish the sum of- $23,000 the residue is ap propriated and shared equally by the federal government and the state. iEngineers are now engaged in making the final survey of this strip of roadway and as soon as this work is completed bids will be advertised for and actual construction will commence in ten near future. This particular part of the Pacific highway haB long been a menace to tourist travel and many serious acci dents have been . narrowly averted and in some instances lives 'have been sacrificed, due to the narrowness of the road and the many sharp turns encountered therein. With the elimination of this dan gerous strip and the completion of the Roberts mountain cutoff, Doug las county can well boast of a "safe and sane" highway through this sec tion which will tend greatly to ad vertise our community to the motor traveling world. BOY WANTED. Wanted The meanest, toughest, the most no-account, the most dis honest, the most evil, vicious, Wicked in fact, the worst boy morally that a human being can be. The Chicago Boys' Brotherhood Republic published this ad. It is no joke. They want just such a boy, and they say that in six weeks thay will turn him Into a 100 per cent good boy. Too many parents don't know their children, don't understand them, don't get close to them, and such a condition is deplorable a tragedy and it is the greatest cause why boys are "bad.' i-.LsSj!'.
