Punishable by Imprisonment
See Advisory Board.
Deputy Sheriff Raffety, who ' has
charge of the mailing out of the ques
tionnaires, announced this morning
that there is still a shortage
of "cover sheets" which will delay
the completion of the questionnaire
work. However, a supply is expected
to arrive soon from the adjutant
general's office.
Questionnaires numbers 246 to
328 inclusive went forward to the
registrants today.
- Several questionnaires1 have been
returned to the exemption board
headquarters and numerous mistakes
have been detected and again the
draft board urges all registrants to
submit their questionnaire to the
advisory board, 211-.2 Perkins
building.
No official information has been
received as to just how many men
congress will see fit to call under the
selective draft system. Therefore it
is not known how many men Doug
las county will be required to fur-
nisn. However, it is safe to say mat
the rumor circulated to the effect
that 3,000,000 men will be called to
fill the next quota is merely a suppo
sition, no person at this time know
ings what ' the department has in
mind.
Every draft registrant must an
swer his questionnaire truthfully
and without evasion. Untrue an
swers or concealment of informa
tion required by tho government will
result in prosecution.
On the other hand, draft regis
trants may rest assured that the
personal questions they are obliged
to answer in regard to their domes
tic and business conditions will be
seen only by the proper authorities.
Members of local and district boards
are forbidden under severe penalty
from divulging such information.
The government requires the most
personal and detailed answers in the
questionnaire because on the infor
mation thus given, supported where
necessary by affidavits of other
persons, will be based the classifica
tion of each registrant.
As a deferred classification is
equivalent to a temporary exemption
or discharge, it must be plain to ev
ery registrans why false answers, de
signed to place the registrant in one
ot the deferred clasess, will be
strictly aealt with.
In this connection an official
warning that should be carefully not
ed by every draft registrant has
just been issued by Clarence L.
Reames, United States attorney for
Oregon. This warning says:
"In connection with the filling out
of the questionnaires, word has been
received from the attorney general to
trosecute vigorously tnose who make
statements therein that are false.
"In view of the fact that false
statements in support of claims for
exemption or deferred classification
constitute a grave menace to the
fair and equitable enforcement of
conscription, we have been request
ed to give wide publicity to the fact
that such material false statements,
even when the facts have been dis
torted only slightly, will be promptly
prosecuted.
"Attention should be further di
rected to the fact that all exemptions
and discharges made prior to noon
on December 15 will thereafter have
no validity, andi to the fact that every
person who has registered and is not
yet in military service is required to
fill out a questionnaire.
"This must be sworn to and is in
tended as a' complete inventory of his
domestic condition and industrial
and educational qualifications.
"The punishment provided for
those who fail to return the ques
tionnaire, or to appear for physical
examination, or to report change of
status, permits imprisonment for
one year."
Even though a registrant is per
fectly sure he understands all that
is require, in the questionnaire, for
his own protection he snould consult
one of the members of the various
legal advisory boards for advice. This
legal advice is free.
Questionnaires are now being sent
out by local boards at the rate of five
per cent each day, except Sundays
and legal holidays, until all are sent
out.

COMB SAGE TEA
Darkens Beautifully and Restores
Its Natural Color and
Lustre at Once. '
Common garden sage brewed into a
heavy tea, with sulphur and alcohol
added, will turn gray, Btrenked and
faded hair beautifully dark and luxuri
ant. Mixing the Sage Tea and Sulphur
recipe at home, though, is troublesome.
An easier way is to get the ready-to-use
preparation improved by the addition of
other ingredients, costing about 50 centd
a large bottle, at drug stores, known as
"Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound,"
thus avoiding a lot of muss. )
While gray, faded hair is not sinful, we
all desire to retain our youthful anpesx
ance and attractiveness. By darkening
your hair with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur
Compound, no one can tell, because it
does it so naturally, so evenly. You
just dampen a sponge or soft brush with
it and draw this through your hair,
takimr one small strand at a time; bv
morning all gray hairs have disappeared. ,
After another application or two your
hair becomes beautifully dark, v glossy,
soft and luxuriant and you appear years !
younger. Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur i
Compound is a delightful toilet requisite. I
It is not intended 4br the cure, mitigation
or prevention of diesase.

A FRIEND IN NEED
A friend in need is a friend in
deed, and how you can tell is to
accommodate him in time of his
need, and then a little later ask him
for it back in return. And that is'
what I have done is to give credit
to many a man and now I am going
to ask them in return to come and
pay their bills in full not later than
December 25 this month, as that Is
the time that I need the "mon" to
ray my honest bills, and all of my
friends that will cpme to this call
will be marked "true blue," and all
that fail to answer this call will be
classed as bums for their friendship
is one-sided, and he is liable to take
the bankrupt law that his wife may
wear $1.75 stockings, 1 and that is
something rotten. Now, kind friends,
this call is to you all that owe this
man, D. J. Jarvis and. we must
have it not later than the 25th of
the present month.
