HELEN KELLER EKOS ROMANCE
Teacher I'ernuadea Famous HILnd
- Girl to lire ilk Engagement.
BOSTON, Mass., Nor. 21. Helen
Keller, the famous deaf and blind
girl, has abandoned a matrimonial
career for the eake of the woman
who has enabled her to learn to talk
and offset her innate Infirmities,
Mrs. John A Macy.
Miss Keller was engaged to Peter
Fagon, a young socialist, who be
came acquainted with her while a
reporter for a Boston newspaper and
was employed by her as secretary.
But romance came Into her life much
against the wishes of Mrs. Macy, on
whom she is absolutely dependent
for communication with the world,
for the development of her powers
'of speech and observation, and to
whom she is indebted practically for
hcr life. Mrs. Macy's opposition to
her pupil's marriage was based not
on selfishness, but on realization
that It would hinder the further
development of a marvelous girl, and
bo the romance has been shattered.

WILLIAM HELL.
Observer.
TN OUR great.geat-grandfathers, time many
A New England families had a cask of rum
in the cellar.
It was freely offered to guests (except chil
dren) and freely partaken of, even as coffee is
today.
This old-time custom gradually passed out
of existence, for our forefathers recognized it
was harmful.
Another old-time custom coffee drinking
is slowly passing in the same fashion and for
the same reason.
The abandonment of coffee drinking is made
easy nowadays by the use of Instant Postum, the
pure cereal beverage with the coffee-like taste.
Unlike coffee, this purely American table
drink contains no 'caffeine " or other harmful
substance.
Postum is now used daily in tens of thou
sands of the best of American homes where, rea
son rules and health is valued.

PKTITION" IS CIIMTTATKH.
A petition was circulated about
the streets today aRking the county
court to appoiut J. M. Schaffer as
road supervisor In district No. 38.
Mr. Schaffer formerly held $is po
sition until a change of the district
sotting aside the city as a separate
district In itself caused him to lose
his (position. Tho change which
again divides the city leaves a va
cancy which Mr. Schaffer hopes to J
obtain. He has an enviable record
in his previous work nnd there will
doubtless be no opposition to his re-nstatement.
