NEW YORK, July 13 There ap
peared upon the bcuch at Coney Is
land today the new force of "Police
Mothers", a vounteer organization of
women possessing the police author
ity, whose members patrol the sands
to keep harm from thousands of
girls who come alone to the big re
sort. The force is commanded by Mrs.
Ellen Craig, of the department of
parks of the Borough of Brooklyn.
While the Police Mothers cooperate
with the regular police, their work
is more personal and calculated to
prevent trouble for the girls rather
than to stop It after It has gotten
started. The patrolled district is
tho entire beach, rrom Sea Cate to
Brighton. Tho Police Mothers serve
without pay.
Senator Saulsbury.
Senator Saulsbury, of Delaware,
has been selected to take charge of
the democratic campaign to retain
control of the United States senate.
It Is believed that ho will be made
the head of a bureau under Chair
man McCormick of the democratic
national committee rather than tho
head of an independent committee.
