Declaration of Independence on a
new significance as It was read
again before the crowds who stood
In hushed uttention as the words
fell from the lips of the reader. The
address which followed had a new
aspect when viewed from the present
day issues and probably never before
has the American nation celebrated
a fourth of July with more true
patriotism than yesterday.
Many opportunities were offered
to spend the day in a pleasant man
ner. Ashland, with Its great round
up and Llthia Springs dedication
ceremony, attracted probably the
greatest crowds, telegraphic reports
placing tho number of visitors at
nearly 20,000. Over ono hundred
went from Roseburg to that city,
making the trip by auto and by train.
The few that have returned are re-j
porting a most delightful trip and
are loud In their praise of the Ash
land people as entertainers. '

and it has been handed down to ev

on of defense as strong as the arms
that we bear and every man should
use this weapon. It is peculiarly
American and the man who will not
use it is not worthy of its privilege.
It represents rulership of the people
and is freedom personified.
