Shower baths for freight cars may
seem a rather startling idea, yet the
Southern Pacific Company is .e,tual
ly Installing them at San Fran isco
and Los Angeles. General Suerln-
ipnrtnnt of Motive Power T. W.
, Helntzelman has hit on this way of
testinar cars for leaky roofs. Ho las
1 had great showers built over the
freight tracks In the yards and r'lns
the cars under the sprays to see
whether they need any repairs for
the rainy season. It is hoped
tHIs nrecautlon to better protect
shipments of merchandise over the
Southern Pacific from wet weather
another "safety first" precaution.

Because of the lack of sufficient
evidence the case against E. S. J.
McAllister, of Myrtle Creek, charged
with wanton cruelty to animals was
dismissed yesterday. A preliminary
hearing which 'was attended by Dis
trict Attorney George Neuner and
Sheriff Geo. Qulne was held in the
office of the justice of the peace at
Mvrtle Creek, but not enough evi
dence was obtainable to warrant his
being held over for the grand Jury
It was claimed that McAllister
wounded horses belonging to Tom
nunnlvan bv shooting them with
buckshot.
