Following Is a summary of the crop conditions for the week ending June 13, 1916, as reported to the local office of the weather bureau by specltil corres pondents throughout the state: j Although the days were moderate ly warm and there was plenty of sun shine, the nights were abnormally' cool and on the morning of the 10th a heavy frost formed in many places, throughout the state. It did no; damage in the western tv unties other j than to potatoes, beans,' tomatoes and tender garden truck, which was nipped severely in places. In the eastern counties the cold nights do-; siroyeu niucu ol uie ,vegiauou in gardens and held back the growth of; yboth fall and spring sown wheat, barley, oats and rye. Many farmers have finished cut ting their first crop of alfalfa, which did not turn out so well as expected, due to the precediner cold und cloudy; weather. Pasturage, and meadows j have made fairly good growth and, stock is In fine condition. There arc, more than the usual number of iriss-l Ing hills in the hop yards and thej condition of this crop Js, on thej whole, unsatisfactory. Apples and prunes continue doing well and fungus and blight are less troublesome, if anvth'ng, that vsmu!. Home grown cherries continue to ripen slowly. The few peaches that escaped the May frosts are making good advancement. The weather during the week was favorable for out door work and the farmers have cleared the weeds from Vieir cultivated crops. Some of them have also begun haying, while others are setting out kale and root crops for stock feed. The snow is melting slowly In the mountains. It is still packed hard in the gulches and has not all melted yet on the north slopes, although the south slopes are mostly bare. There will be plenty of water for late irriga tion. E. A.
