the lightest posible equipment. Each
will bear a message from the com
mander to the military authorities
here, and the race will be so timed
that the entrants will arrive at
Sheepshead Bay between Hie hours
of 2 and 6 p. m. on Monday, May 22,
the third day of tho tournament.
Major General Leonard Wood, U
S. A., commanding the department
of the east, and his aide, Captain
Gordon Johnson, have been asked to
act as judges of the race, for which
several handsome trophies have been
offered. Mayor Mltchel Is lending
his aid to the manoeuvres, and Ma
jor Carl F. Hartnian, U. S. A., In
command of the Signal Corps at Gov
ernors Island, Is co-operating with
Gen. O'Ryan In perfecting the aerial
program. Aerial flights will be di
rected by wireless telegraph, some
thing. It Is said, never attempted
here before. A .central station at
Sheepshead Bay will keep In touch
by wireless with the aeroplanes cir
cling overhead.
