It is rumored today from authen
tic sources that a communication was
Received by the school clerk this
morning from John Hunter asking
that ho bo ailowed to withdraw his
hiti for the construction of the pro
posed high school building and that
his certitied check be returned to
him. It is stated that this action Is
to the rapid a.ivance In ma
terials and .Mr. Hunter has found
liuit his bid was much too low to
allow profit and Is confident that a
loss would result should he be
awarded the contract. Mr. Hunter's
bid was $57,783.80, the nearest com
petitor making a figure of $(!:;,:;! 1.
The check which accompanied -Mr.
lluiiier'H bid was for une-tenth ot
(he amount bid.
I'niess the school board agrees to
reject the bid of Mr, Hunter he cn
held to his original bid or a for
feiture of his certified cheek. It is
v.iix tbonght, however, he will bo held
to the original agreement.
Tho schooi hoard will hold a spe
cial meeting tonight at which
time this matter along with several
others will be settled. The board
has had the contractors who origin
ally submitted bids figuring the cost
of construction with certain changes
as the first cost was found to be
much too high. The new bids will
be opened tonight and in all prob
ability the contract will be allowed
to the lowest bidder. In this case
Mr. Hunter would be automatically
released from his agreement, as it
is understood ho made no bid on the
amended plans and sHcifications.
Both Mr. Hunter und the school
closest rival heing Congressman j it-- joined in
Jones, of Vhgini.t, who is serving his tleth birthday.
