From Sept. 30 to Dec. 3, the Panama-Pacific
International Exposition
at San Francisco will be the scene of
a succession of live stock shows,
which, it is believed, will surpass any
ever held in the United States or
even in the world. From tho list of
those who have signified their inten
tion to participate, it is assumed that
in all the shows animals and ppultry
of the finest quality, and in large
quantity, will be represented. Almost
half a million dollars have been ap
propriated. The Exposition itself has
apportioned $190,000 for cash prizes,
45 breed record associations have set
aside $100,327 for special premiums
and the commissions of various states
have appropriated a total of $150,230
for participation of stock from their
respective regions. The quarantine
has been raised m practically all i for stalls or pen rent, but there will

be made without restriction.
The fact that the Exposition is now
on a sound financial basis. it3 net

D. O. Lively, chief of the depart
ment of live stock, is receiving daily
applications for entry blanks, which
must be obtained from him by all
classes of owners, even to children
who wish to enter their pets.
Annoyances and expense experi
enced in other live stock shows will
be largely, if not wholly obviated.

ranged for transportation of live
stock to and from the Exposition.
All railroads party to the Transcon
tinental Freight Bureau will he free,
returning, all live stock that has
paid full rates for being carried out.
For live stock not returned, there
will be a refund of 25 per cent. The
same provision has been made by the
racmc rroigm iarm.
The California State Agricultural
Society is co-operating to its utmost
with Chief Lively, in providing con
venience for exhibitors. The state
fair grounds at Sncrcmcnto, havai
been placed at his disposal for the)
assembling of stock, and on thorn are
strictly sanitary, most modern ac
commodations. Many exhibitors wish'
to ship all their stock at one time.
