The new lighting fixtures for the
Umpqua hoted arrived today and the
work of putting them in place will
begin immediately. The fixtures are
very attractive and when placed in
use will make the lobby much more
attractive than under the present
system of indirect lighting. Therf will
be fifteen nitrogen lamps installed In
the place of those now In use.
John Miller and wife, of New York,
who have been visiting in this city,
lefe today for Portland where they
will Bpend a few days with relatives.
A. H. Amadou and son, Archie, re
turned last evening from a few day'a
hunt in the hills some distance south
of the city. They report a good out
ing and fair success.
R. E. Jope and son, Harold, leave
next week for Stanford, where the
latter will attend school during the
winter months. Mr. Jope will return
after a few days spent attending to
business matters.
G. W. Tolley, who lives about one,
mile and a half southeast of the'
city, baa been up at Peel with hlB
family the past week, hunting and
camping. Upon his return yesterday. I
he found that some one had entered
the house by prying up a window.
The miscreants took all the groceries
and provisions left In the place, and
rummaged everything olse In the
search for other articles. As there
was no indication of any haste being
used, he does not think that hoboes
are responsible for the breaking in.
Mrs. E. J. Murphy and Miss Clora
Murphy, of St. Paul, Minn., who have
been visiting A. T. Lawrence, at the
Sunshine ranch, left this morning
for Portland where they will visit for
a short time.
T. N. Cornutt reports his prune
crop in excellent shape. While his
o-chard la not as full as It has been
other seasons the fruit Is of uood
size, and he Is looking for a yield of
