In your issue of the 1th appears a
paragraph stating that I had with
drawn from the contest for the nom
ination for county Judge, and In the
same paragraph appears a statement
that D. J, Stewart would enter the
race In my stead. This statement
would led the reader to think that I
hod withdrawn from the contest In
favor of Mr. Stewart, which would
be Incorrect. In this connection I
wish to say that I had never form
ally entered the race as you call It,
and the publishing a card in your
paper announcing my candidacy was
n,ot authorized by me at' that time
and was through a mistake of your
publisher. I wish to state now that
my reasons for not contesting for
the nomination of county judge was
not In the Interest of either of the
cadidates, or on account of their can
didacy but for the sole reason that
I want to relieve Sheriff Quine (who
Is my aon-ln-lnw) from embarrass
ment in his campaign for re-election.
