Mrs. W. D. Wade, of Drain, under
went an operation as Mercy hospital
tnis morning. The operation was
performed by Drs. Sether and Ste
wart and was quite successful.

Mrs. A. C. Kldd & Son today re
ceived a Ford automobile truck which
wilt be pressed into service some
time tomorrow. The truck has a ca
pacity of 1,000 pounds affd is equip
ped with a 22 horse-power engine.
This is the first truck of Its kind to
be received in Roseburg.
E. Mauldlng and wife left for
Sheridan this afternoon in response
to a telegram announcing the death
of the latter's mother, Mrs. E. J.
Rowell.' Mrs. Rowell was about 70
years of age and leaves 11 children.
The funeral will be held at Sheridan
tomorrow.
Ernest Wells and Wesley Fergu
son, aged 11 and 13 years, who were
yesterday arrested accused of lar
ceny by bailee in connection with
stealing two saddle ponies from the
stables of Sam Smith, will be return
ed to Portland tonight. The boys
last night admitted that they recent
ly escaped from Frazler's Detention
Home, near Portland, after appropri
ating $13 belonging to a companion.
Leaving Portland they went to Al
bany, thence to Cottage Grove and
finally landed In Roseburg on Tues
day. After reaching Roseburg they
visited the Smith stables where they
rented a couple of saddle ponies un
der the pretense of enjoying an
hour's ride. Falling to return in the
afternoon, Mr. Smith became sus
picious and caused a warrant to be
Issued for their arrest. They were
later apprehended near Canyonvllle.
When questioned the boys said they

The ladles aid society of the Pres
byterian church will serve dinner at
the church on one day only, Friday.
