Saturday from Medford whither they
were called the middle of the week
by the death of a nephew.
Mrs. Alf Allen, of Portland, was
the guest of her friend, Mrs. S. S.
Johns, from Tuesday to Sunday. Mrs.
Allen formerly resided hero. ,
Mrs.-J. A. Duunlvan and daughter,
Mrs. J. A. KIce and children, re
turned Tuesday from an outing In the
mountains. s
Mrs. J. B. Herrell, of Ashland,
with her daughters,- Helen and
Louise, are visiting at the home of
Mrs. L. O. Stnrbuck.
Mr. and Mrs. Hunter and family
and Mr. Holiday have just returned
from a hunting and fisfhiug expedi
tion. They report a splendid time.
Miss Morence Glass ha been at
tending the teachers' examination in
Kosehurg this week.

children left for their home in
Springfield, Missouri, after a week's
visit with Mrs. Chalmers brother.

The death of Joseph Lane has
broken up the old home, his wld-

Mervln Duly has secured the con
tract to supply our public school with
wood for the coming year and be
gan to haul this week.
Plans are maturing for erecting
a new Presbyterian church, on the
site of the one recently burned, also
a Baptist church where the old hotel
stood that wus burned live yeurs
ago.
The ladies aid society met at the
home of Mrs. John Samuel Friday af
ternoon. Nearly twenty ladios were
present. The flowers were very
prettily used In decorating the room.
Ice tea, cakes and a fruit salad were
served. A pleasant feature was the
making, by each lady who cared to,
a booklet entitled "My Vacation,
1910," illustrating it by cutting picr
lures from magazines. It made a
merry time. There were also a num
ber of missionary readings.

Wednesday from Santa Anna, Cal.,
where they went with the sorely
stricken parents of the young man
drowned In the Umpqua river, sever

two weeks and still have several
crops to thresh.
Miss Mattie Jones Is in Roseburg
this week taking the teachers' exam
ination. We are sorry to hear that Mrs. A.
B.' Foster Is on the sick list.
The Looking Glass and Brock way
leagues held a joint meeting at
Looking Glass Sunday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. George Best are en
joying an outing in Brewster Valley.
Miss Maude Ashworth, of Hose
burg, is the guest of Miss Carrie
Hodge.
Mr. and Mrs. H, Schrenk spent a
pleasant day In Ten Mile Sunday.
Miss Lillian Brown has returned
to Washington, after a visit here with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
