the circuit court against the South
ern Pacific Railroad Company to re
cover the sum of $n00 as damages.
He alleges among other allegations
that he at one time owned three
horses of the approximate value of
$500.. and that these animals were
killed on a dangerous crossing near
Myrtle Creek through carelessness
disulayed by railroad employes In

that the train was running at a high
rate of speed, and further, that the

A very sad death occurred In the
city shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday
afternoon, when Mrs. Emma Field,
aged 58 years, wife of Aphus Field,
county bridge contractor, passed
away at her home on Mill street as
the result of burns received while
attempting to light a gasoline stove
on April 1. The lady waa. well and
favorably known in this city where
she has resided for the paBt 3ft years.
She was prominent In social circles
nnd her death has cast a gloom over
the city. Aside from a heartbroken
husband she leaves one daughter.
Mrs. A. C. Mnrks.-and two sons, Fred
nnd Charles Fields, all of whom are
residents of Rosebnrg. The funeral
whs held at the family residence, 735
Mill street, at 2:30 o'clock this after
noon. Interment occuring at the Ma
sonic cemetery. A large crowd was
present to pay last respects,
showing in a measure the high es
tee mln which the ladv Is held In this
community. The floral offerings
were many and beautiful.
