A remarkable assertion of the prac ticability of aviation. is embodied in tile announcement yesterday of Wnl luco E. .Tlllinghast, vice-president of o Worchester manufacturing com pany, who asserts that he has Invent ed. -built and tested secretly an aero plane callable of carrying three pass engers and In which he says he has flown from Worchester to New York, thence to Boston and hack. A speed of 1'iO miles an hour was made nt times he declares. The test was made on September S at night, according to Mr. Tllling hast, who says he circled the statute of Liberty at an elevation of 4000 feet and was seen on the return trip by a coast guard on Long Island when tlylng low, tho fact being recorded In the newspapers at the time. Mr.'Tiilinghast says the machine is a monoplane, weighing 1550 pounds, equipped with a 120-horse power gas oline engine.
