The petition to divide School dis
trict No. 39 into two parts came be
fore the School Boundary Board nt
their meeting In Hoseburg on Fri
day the 5th and was set aside, ine
object was to put the town of Sulh
erlin in a district by Itself.
A school election was held Satur
day, the Oth, and the voters carried
a motion to move the present site to
a point just west of the depot build
ing at Sulheriin. This will end the
days of the old Fair Grove School, a
laud mark for the past forty years.
A new and modern school building
will be created immediately upon
the new site and Sutherlln will have
!a Bchool building In keeping with the
I rapid development of its community.
One whose architectural attractive
ness will exemplify the good taste of
its citizens.
The Shlrla Lumber Company start
ed its new saw mill on Monday. The
plant is located at the month of Coop
er CaniBi, a mile east of Sulherlln
and adjacent to the heavy timber.
The plant Is working six men at the
present but Intends to put on an ad
ditional force as soon as all machin
ery is installed.

Mr. Lloyd Smith has moved Into
his new residence, which he has just
completed. Mr. Smith intends build

end of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Franz and
daughter Jean, left today for Eugene
to visit their daughter Gladys who

Rosa Goodman took a flying trip
to Looking Glass yesterday, and vis
ited the scene of operations for an oil
well that la being bored for on the
farm of James T. Goodman. He was
was present when the borings were
cleaned out of the bore ior the first
time, and for the tirat time I nuked
upon seepago oil from a well in
Douglas county.
Work Is again resumed, and the
well Is down now over 1100 feet. The
drill is reaching a harder alia la of
rock and that Is considered a moat
favorable sign, as no flow oil In
any quantity could be expected until

Ther has been over a thousand
tons of copper ore taken out of these
mines, and the machine will be used
to develop the value of the ore be
loro it is yarded up preparatory to
future shipment.
Vv hlle much of the ore will be laid
to ono side for the time being, that
which comes up to the standard set
by the owners of the mines will be
held until a certain number of tons
are accumuluted and shipped by rail
road to a smelter.
