Telephone Co., came np from. Portland
yesterday and spent today in the city.
Miss May Fisher arrived on the boat
last night from Portland, where she has
pent a month visiting friends and at
tending the exposition.
Miss Annie Sandrock has returned
from a visit through the country in the
interest ot the Campbell 4 Wilson Mil
linery parlors.
Mr. J. R. Rees's sister, Mrs. Hadley,
accompanied by her daughter, came np
- from Hood River last mgbt and are
visiting with him for a few days.
Dr. A. W. Botkin, who has been
spending the past two weeks with friends
here, returned this morning to Portland.
In a short time the doctor will return
and locate in Arlington.
Mrs. Myra Warfield, of Vancouver,
and Mrs. Emily Hereford, of Colfax, are
-visiting their niece, Mrs. L. L. Mo
Oartney. The two ladies are sisters,
meeting for the first time in thirty-three
years at the heme of their niece.
" Mrs. W. C. Morean, of Albany, is here
-visiting her son, Mr. Lee Morgan, and
other friends. This is her first visit in
fourteen years, and she was much sur
prised at the amount of improvements
which have been made in The Dalles.

from a visit to her daughter, Miss Anna

and Mrs. W. R. Barrett were passengers

Mrs. Nettie Booth and two children
went to Portland by boat this morning,
where they will visit Mrs. M. Booth and

gust 19, 189S. Notice is hereby given tbat the
order of tbe President of January 31, 1898, per
manently reserving the following described
tracts or parcels of land, for the use of s boat
railway between The Dalles and Celilo. on the
south side of the Columbia river, has been re
voked. Said tracts described as follows: One
tract situated in the X of Sec. 31, T. 2 N., R.
14 E., containing about four and one-half acres
(no other description). Tbe other tract In the
J sec. zi, x. z Pi., tt. ia c., conrnininK &dou
one-half of an acre, particular!) described as fol
lows: Beginning at the northwest corner of
said section 21, and running thence in a south
erly direction along tbe west boundary line of
said section 21, one hnndred and seventy (170)'
feet to a point on said boundary line; thence in
a straight line to a point on the north boundary
line of said section 81, distant two hundred and
sixty (2G0) feet in an easterly direction from the
poipt of beginning; and thence in a westerly .
direction along the north boundary line of said
section 21 to the point of beginning. Said tracts
are therefore restored to the public domain, and
are subject to disposal the same as other public
