Yesterday being all fools' day, it was
properly observed by members of that
organization. It is reported that one of
the boys in the pit at the club alley tied
a string on the king pin, and every time
a iaay oowiea a pan, no matter whether
it stayed on the alley or not, he would
pull the string, when down went the
pins, and up went a shout of delight at
the good scores being made. But this
could not last forever, one of the ladies
seeing what was going on asked "Pat
what he meant by such conduct. "Well,
this is April 1st,", was .the -answer she
received. Even our mayor is said 'to

: Washington, April 1. The Dingley
tariff bill passed "the house yesterday
with the amendment making the duties
imposed by the' measure effective begin
ning today. When the voting began
the Republicans presented an ' unbroken
front to the opposition. On the other
band five Democrats, representatives
from states I interested in the sugar
schedule,. voted for the measure.. One
Populist, Howard of Alabama, also voted
for the bill;
The vote on the final passage of the
bill stood, ayes 205, noes 122, present but
not voting 21 a majority of 83.
The amendment introduced by the
Democrats providing for the suspension
of duties on articles controlled by trusts
was defeated, every Republican voting
against it. There was a great demon
stration on the floor and in the galleries
of the house when the bill .was finally
passed. "
The man who eats because he is bun
rrv is. thus far. on the level with the
brutes. The man wh6 stops eating the
moment his hunger is appeased is the
wise man. Nature needs no more food
than he calls for. Continued excess
brings about indigestion or dyepepsia
with loss of flesh, strength, sleep, am
bition and mental power, and an . ac
cumulation of aches, pains and many
dangeroos local maladies.
The stomach now can- do nothing
alone. We must appeal to some' artific
ially digested food which can also digest
other foods. That is to say, we must
use the Shaker Digestive Cordial. The
effect is prompt and cheering. The
chronic pain and distress ceases,
Appetite presently reviyeB. Flesh ' and
vieor gradually comes back, and the
Bufferer recovers. But he must be care
ful in future. A trial bottle for 10 cents'.

Crime of a Negro.
Trenton, N. J., March 30. The city
detective department has sent a descrip
tion of Isaac Martin, a colored lad,' who
has for years been an attache of Trenton
hotels, and whom they want for, wreak
inar his vengence upon Clara Long, his
brother-in-law's wife.
Martin attended the inaugural in
Washington, and on .his return he heard
stories of Clara's doings. ' Going to the
eirl's house be found her in a bed. . He
cut all her clothing into ribbons with a
razor, and, as this did not extort a con
fession, he striped her like a zebra, with
iodine. He then took care that she was
securely fastened, and, kissing her, . left
for parts unknown.. As the iodine mix
ture dried it burned the girl's flesh, and
her screams attracted the attention of
neighbors, who released her.'

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages, and
that is Catarrh. Hall's Catarrh Cure is
the only positive cure known to the
medical fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease, requires a consti
tutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh
Care is taken internally, acting directly
upon the blood und mucous surfaces of
the system, thereby destroying the foun
dation of the disease, and giving the
patient strength by building up the con
stitution and assisting nature in doing
its work. The proprietors bave so much
faith in its curative powers, that they
offer One Hundred Dollars for any case
that it fails to cure. Send for list of
testimonials. Address:

No. 2-8. - - - -Frosts
In California Fruit Belt.
San Francisco, March 30. The local
office ' of the United States weather
bureau has received advices from the
various fruit sections of the state to the
effect that during the last two nights
killing frosts have seriously damaged the
fruit crop. Prunes and apples are not
sufficiently advanced to receive so much
harm as apricots and altnonds, which in
many sections have been totally de
stroyed, while peach trees and ' vines
have also been injured, though in less
degree. ' .
Two years ago R. J. Warren, a drug
gist at Pleasant Brock, N. Y., bought a
small supply of -Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy. He sums up the result as fol
lows : "At that time the goods were un
known in this section ; to-day Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy is a household
word.'' . It is the same in hundreds of
communities. Where ever' the good
qualities of Chamberlain's Cough Rem
edy become known the people will have
