Dr. Logan returned today from Port
land. Ex-Governor Moody went to Portland
on the afternoon's train.
Mr. A. S. Bennett came np on the loc
al today from the metropolis.
Miss Waffle of Pendleton, who has
been visiting Mrs. L. E. Crowe, leit for
home last evening.
Prof. M. N. Stratton returned today
from Portland, where hb attended the
teachers' institute.
Kev. J. N. T. Goss arrived from Milton
this morning, and is registered at the
Umatilla. He will preach tomorrow in

Mr. Hans Lage, one of -Hood; River
valley's prosperous farmer, is in town
today.
Mr. B. B. Oppenheimer.'a well-known
commercial traveler of Portland, ia in
the city. .
Miss Anna Peter is in the city from
Eugene. She was formerly a resident of
The Dalles.
Rev. J- N. T. Goss expects to go to
Portland this week and return ia time
to hold eervices next Sunday.
Sheriff Driver went to Portlancfon the
' afternoon train. He has been confined
to his home for several days by illness.
Mr. T. H. Williams, a well-known
commercial traveler representing Mason,
Ehrnaan & Co. of Portland ; is in the
city.
Miss Clara Condon, who has been
visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Condon for
a week or more, has returned to Pen
dleton. Miss Minnie Michell returned last
night from a week's visit in Portland
during which time she attended the
teachers' inititute.
Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Stewart of Port
land came up on the noon train from
Portland and are visiting Mr. Stewart's
mother at Mrs. Myers.
' Mies Grace Hindtnan, sister of Mrs.
X,. S. Davis, returned to The Dalles last
Saturday morning from the Good Sa
maritan hospital, Portland, where she
has been very ill for several months.
Mr. Charles Dehm, the well-known
steamboat engineer, is in the city from
Eiparia. Mr. Dehm was brought np in
J. lie Danes, and for a time was engineer
of the Regulator, besides serving on the
O. K. & N. Co.'s steamers.

T. W. Glavey is in town from Dufur,
G. A. Hildebrand of Wasco is a visitor
to town.
H. D. Parkins of Cascade Locks came
up on last night's train.
Matt Thorbourn of Kingsley is in the
city viewing the sights.
Mr. Hugh Glenn came home on the
noon train from Portland.
Mr. D. H. Roberts returned from sev
eral days spent in Eugene.
M. E. Summers of Condon, Gilliam
county, is registered at the Umatilla.
Mr. J. J. Cleland, a well-known citi
zen of Portland, is visiting in The Dalles
today.
George H. Clarke, a business man of
Chicago is in The Dalles on matters of
business today.
Levi Armsworthy, one of Wasco's
'well-known residents, arrived in The
Dalles last evening.
Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Huntington left
this morning for Portland, where Mr.
Huntington goes to attend to some legal
matters. ,
Miss Madge Summerville, who has
. been visiting in The Dalles for several
days, returned to her home in Portland

Mrs. H. B. Marlin and son Stanley,
lelt today tor their home in San Lorenzo,

. Mrs. J. B. Crossen.
Hon. D. M. French left on the after-
. noon train -for Corvallis, where he will
attend the meeting of the regents of the
Agricultural vollege.
Hon. J. D. Cooper, superintendent of
the penitentiary farm at Salem, is in
town today. . He reports that institu
tion in good condition and the prisoners
healthy and well cared for. He returns
to Salem today.
