C. H. King, Water Valley, Kiss., cored by
Ayer's Sarsaparilla
"For five years, I suffered untold misery
from muscular rheumatism. I tried every
known remedy, consulted the best physi
cians, visited Hot Springs, Ark., three times,
spending $1000 there, besides doctors' bills;
hut could obtain only temporary relief. My
flesh was wasted away so that I weighed
only ninety-thre'b pounds ; my left arm and
leg were drawn out of shape, 'the muscles
being twisted op in knots. I was unable to
dress myself, except with assistance, and
could only hobble about by using a cane. I
had no appetite, and was assured, by the
doctors, that I could not live. The pains, at
times, were so awful, that I could procure
relief only by means of hypodermic Injec
tions of morphine. I had my limbs bandaged
in clay, in sulphur, in poultices; but these
gave only temporary relief. After trying
everything, and suffering the most awful
tortures', I began to take Ayer's Sarsaparilla.
Inside of two months, I was able to walk
without a cane. In three months, my limbs
began to strengthen, and in the course of a
year, I was cured. My weight has increased
to 1G5 pounds, and I am now able to do my
full day's work as a railroad blacksmith."

'A NIGHT OFF.
The Itnldwln Crowded to fflraM the
Flay Given y the Dramatic
Club A Decided Success.
A more appreciative audience never
assembled in The Dulles than the one
which greeted the Home Dramatic Club
at the Baldwin last evening, When the
enrtaiu rose it showed every reserved
seat occupied with the best people the
town could turnish. All the good things
that have been said of the Dramatic
Club were justified by their perform-
ance on this occasion. The play was
full of interest from beginning to end,
nor at any time was it dull or insipid.
"A Night Off" is one of those comedies
that make you laugh iu spite of your
self, and the members of the cast carried
it out with a zest and enthusiasm that
soon became catching in the audience.
From the very first the spectators
"caught on" to use a slang expres
sion and watched the unfolding of
the plot with close attention, giving em
phasis to the good points by hearty ap
plause. The cast contained some ladies
and gentleman that bad appeared be
fore in dramatic performance, and their
appearance last evening was greeted by
applause from those who appreciated
their acting.
Mr. R. II. Lonsdale took the part of
"Professor Babbitt," the well meaning,
but blundering, husband, whose pench
ant for dramatic writing caused him
endless trouble1. This gentleman needs
no words of praise to tell him of the suc
cess lie achieved last evening, as the
hearty applause he received and the
congratulations of his friends showed
plainly this fact. The part he took was
a hard one, but he carried it out to the
entire satisfaction of all who heard him.
To Mr. Lonsdale as ftage manager and
his direction of the rehearsing is due
great credit for the success of the play.
Mr. N. J. Sinnott scored a great suc
cess as "Marcus Brutus Snapp," the
tragedian. Mr. Sinnott's make-up was
stunning, and he acted his difficult part
in a manner that would have done credit
to one high in the ranks of professional
actors. It is by far the best character
lio has essayed before a Dulles audience,
and he demonstrated last evening that
he is possessed of real histrionic talent.
The young gentleman was compelled to
respond to a curtain call at the close of
the third act. 1
Mr. John Hampshire, who never does
anything unless he does it well, was one
of the star performers of-the evening.
He impersonated the fortunate lover,
with an ease and "grace that won
the young lady's heart and the approval
of the audience. Daring the second act
Mr. Hampshire sang a solo, for which he
received hearty applause that continued
till he responded with an encore. Last
night, as in every performance in which
he is, Mr. Hampshire contributed, in a
very large measure, to the success that
resulted. Mr. Hoger Sinnott made a cap
ital "Dr. Damaek," the son-in-law of
the professor, who bad the same faculty
for getting into scrapes, hut better luck
of getting out of them. Mr. Sinnott is
possessed of good ability in dramatic af
airs and brought much credit to him
self by the force of his acting.
. Mrs. G. C. Blaktley took the part of
'Mrs. Babbitt," the wife of the pro
fessor, and her acting was of a kind re-
Quiring the highest praise. In the
scenes with the professor she showed
much dramatic power and sustained the
character from first to last in an admir
able manner.
The "Nisbe" of Miss Rose Michell was
par excellence. This young lady has
appeared in other dramatic perform
ances and always in the front rank of
the best. Last night she was perfectly
at ease and capable of showing the
proper feeling and reserve. Whenever
Miss Michell appears in public she is
greeted with deserved applause.
Miss Myrtle Michell was fully tip to
the high standard set by the others in
the cast, and as "Angelica," the forgiving
wife of "Dr. Damask," she won new
laurels. Her acting was perfectly nat
ural, while she said her lines in a man
ner that showed good elocutionary
powers. Miss Michell favored the audi
ence with one of her sweet solos, which
received a hearty encore.
Mrs A. N. Varney took the part of
"Susan," the sympathizing servant,
and acted it in a vivacious manner. As
one of the newest members, Mrs. Var- I
ney gives promise of being a vaiuaDie
acquisition to the club.
The music of the Orchestra Lnion
cannot be passed without mention.
The selections were highly appreciated,
especially the overture "Cavaleria Rus
ticana," which was received with rap
turous applause. The orchestra kindly
furnished their services free of charge,
and their kindness is much appreciated
by the society of St. Vincent.
The net receipts will be quite large,
as $104 were taken in for the sale of
seats.
TWO
VIEWS OF THE
INCIDENT.
BAYARD
Walla Walla Union : It does not be
come Mr. iiayara to talK at noine or
abroad about "class legislation," "breed
ing lmqnitv, "cortupt public lrie, ' and
like expression?, when it has been
charged for many years that the politics
of Mr. Bayard's little state of Delaware,
which fins kept tiie isavard family in
office since the formation of the present
government, has been notoriously cor
rupt. None enow the power ot corrupt
ing influence?, and how to be benefitted
by them, hotter than does the aristo
cratic Minister Bayard. H"?' should lie
recalled, and his place filled by a repre
sentative of American patriotism.
Evening Telegram : It was natnral
that Mr. Bayard's association of state
socialism with protection of the trusts
should have stirred up the ire of the
2h-tariff people, but the only fault
that non-partisanism can find with it
consists in its lack of originality. It
was merely an oral reproduction of the
sentiment expressed by the people of
the United States when they. elected a
complete anti-protection government
three year" neo. Since then the parti
san complexion of the house majority
has been changed, but the mutation in
dicates a popular rebuke to the demo
cratic party for non-fulfillment of its
tariff pledges rather than a popular de
sire that McKinleyism shall be restored.
And that the republican party appreci
ates that fact is shown by the gingerly
way in which its leaders treat the pro
posed revision of the tariff.

A most wise investment is it to give
