Herrick, the canneryinan, re turned today from a business trip to Portland. Mrs. J. T. Peters came home last night from a visit with ber sister, Mrs. Mays, in Portland. Mr. Emil Schanno, Mrs. H. J. Maier and Miss Alma Schanno returned yes terday from a viBit in Portland. Mr. E. P. Ash and Mr. J. E. Sorbin, two well-known merchants of Cascade Locke, came up on the noon train. Mr. Eugene Price leaves Monday morn in 2 for Missoula. Mont. He will I probably reside there in the future. Mrs. O. Lewis and Mrs. R. G. Daven port, who have been in Portland for the past few days, returned on the noon train today. Mr. F. W. Hinsdale of Portland is in the city on business connected with the Northwestern Life Insurance Co. He will remain here a week or more. Monday. Mr. George W. Johnston and wife of Dufur are in the city. Mayor Menefee returned last night from a visit to Portland. Sheriff T. J. Driver went to Portland on this afternoon's train. , Mr. W. G. Keys of Prineville, a for rner resident of The Dalles, is in the city. Mr. Charles Hilton came in on last night's stage from bis Gilliam county ranch. Mrs. J. L. Story returned yesterday from an extended visit in the Willamette valley. Mr. J. O. Mack returned home this morning from attending the races at Heppner. Mr. A. M. Fuller of Portland, who bas been in town since Saturday, re turned home this morning. Mr. Ray Smith of Cross Keys is in the city. Ray formerly lived in The Dalles, and attended the public echools here. Mr. Judd S. Fish war a passenger on the Regulator to Cascades yesterday from which place he took the local train for Portland. Hon. A. A. Jayne, prosecuting attor ney for this judicial district, left for his borne in Arlington yesterday. He is on his way from attending court at Prine ville. Mr. Douglas Dufur is in the city from Portland, where in the future he will make his home. He has secured a good position with a large insurance com pany, and intends becoming one of Portland's rustling business men. Hon. W. R. E lis left yesterday for ' Portland. During his short stay here be was busily engaged in learning the wants o( hjs constituents, and will re turn to Washington ready to devote a winter to the district he represents. Mr. E. C. Price left this morning for Missoula, Montana, near which city he will occupv. a responsible position in a sash and door factory. The Dalles will be sorry to lose Mr. Price, but bis friends will be glad to hear of his success. Mrs. Price will remain in The Dalles for a time at least. Tuesday. Mr. J. A. Douthit spent yesterday in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wallis of Rufus are in the city. Mr. T. W. Glavey of Kingsley is in the city on business. Mr. J. E. Barnett came home from Portland yesterday. Mrs. T. T. Nicholas returned last even ing from a visit in Portland. Mrs. Wm. Michell left on the after noon train for a visit in Portland. Messrs. Fred Donaldson and M. Fin layson of Antelope are in the citv. Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Nolan returned last eight from a visit in Portland. Mr. J. C. Baldwin was a passenger to Portland on the Regulator this morning. Mr. A. Kirchheiner of Antelope passed through The Dalles today on his way to Portland. Mrs. J. C. OHphant of Portland ar rived in The Dalles last night for a visit with relatives. Mr. B. F. Allen and Mr. J. W. How ard, two well-known citizens of Prine ville, were in town yesterday evening. Mr. Frank Vogt returned this morning from Chicago, to which place he went with a train load of sheep several weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. I. X.
