Jayne. left on this morning's stage for Prineville to be present at the ses sion of court next week. She was accompanied by Mips Jeanette Meredith of Salem, who will visit in The Dalles for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ankeny have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. P. W. De Huff in The Dalles. Mr. Ankeny is a part owner in the Sterling mine, one of the most famous and productive minus in Southern Oregon. Monday. Mr. N. S. Daggert, a well-known citi zen of Portland is in the city. Mr. J. W. Howard of Prineville has been in The Dalles for a day or two. Mr. Robt. Mavs, jr., left on the local train for a brief visit in Portland. Messrs, J. N. Burgess and Ligh iiaignt ot Bake Oven are in the city. F. M. Driver and R. B. Driver of Wamic are in the city visiting Sheriff Driver. Mr. C. P. Heald, city recorder of Hood River, came up from that place this morning. - Mr. J. G. Miller was among those who lelt to attend the Portland exposition tbis morning. Mr. W. F. Courtney, well-known to old residents of The Dalles, is registered at tbe Umatilla. ,Prof. Wm. Birgfeld went to Portland this morning by Eteamer. He will re turn Friday night. M. P. Isenberg and F. Chandler, two well-known residents of Hood River, were in the city yesterday. Messrs. Wm. Crofton and J. M. Cum mins of Centerville,. Klickitat county, were visitors to The Dalles yesterday. Miss Martha Doerr, who has been visiting Mrs. George A. Liebe the past few days, returned to her home in San Jose, Cal., this morning. Mr. W. M. McCorkle, proprietor of the Tygh Valley Flouring Mills, is in the city, on his way to Eugene, where he will visit his daughter. Mr. McCor kle is one of Wasco county's pioneers. Mr. E. L. Fain, who has been a resi dent of The Dalles for the past two j ears, leaves tomorrow morning for Dallas, Texas. He will be absent over a year, but intends eventually to return to . The Dalles, a place he has grown to like very much. Mr. G. M. Stroud, grand lecturer of the grand lodge of Masons in Oregon, ar rived in Tbe Dalles today. - He will lecture to the Masons in their ball to night. For many years Mr. Stroud was a conductor on the old O. & C. R. R., bat has now retired from active rail roading, Tuesday. Mr. E. S. F. Newcome of Bake Oven is in the city. Mr. J. W. Condon was a passenger to Portland on today's locaj. Messrs. E. G. and H. Bolter of Cross Keys are in the city laying in winter supplies. Mr. T. H. Johnston, the Dnfur mer chant, was a visitor to our town . this morning. Mrs. J. C. Meins and daughter were passengers to Portland on the boat this morning. Mr. E. Sichel, one of Prineville's pros perous merchants, passed through The Dalles today on his way to Portland. Mr. G. W. Hunt, the well-known rail road builder of the Northwest, came up from Portland last night and is in tbe city. . , Mr. J. G. Maddock, the Goldendale banker and. owner of the Klickitat Re publican, tv is a visitor to Tbe Dalles to day. Mr. D. W. Campbell, chief train dis patcher of the O. R. & N. with head quarters at Albina, was in The Dalles this morning. - LOST. One hundred and fiftv head of ebeep nn around Mt' Hood last- summer. Thev were branded H about six inches lone. Yews crop on right and swallow fork on' left ear, tbe same with the lambs. There were 32 lambs branded H on back of neck and about 30 yews branded the same and same crop, also small hole in back of each year. Lambs had extra upper bit in right ear.
