Mr. J. B. Abbot, a well-known tanner

Mr. Frank Fulton came down from
Sherman countv yesterday to seu the
fair.
Mr. D. D. Clarke of Portland came np
on the night train and is visiting friends
in lhe Dalles.
Dr. Hngh Logan left on the early
morning train to attend the meeting of
toe JMks in .Portland.
Mr. C. Sam Smith, one of Prineville'a
solid merchants is in the city. Almost
any day freight can be eeen in The
Dalles warehouses addressed to Mr,
Smith.
Mr. J. L. Hanna, who lives up Chen-
oweth creek, paid Iiie uhbomcle a call
yesterday. He intends putting in a
large number of fruit trees in addition
to the. ones now growing on his ranch.
Monday.
Mr. N. Whealdon returned home on
the noon train yesterday.
Mr. C. G. Roberts came np on the loc
al today from Uood River.
Miss Rpse Michejl returned yesterday
from a visit with friends in Salem.
Mrs.' L. S. Davis and children, left on
the Regulator this morning for a short
visit in .Portland.
Sheriff Driver and Harry Liebe were
among The Dalles people at the exposi
tion Saturday.
Hon. Tierce Mays and family returned
home to Portland yesteiday afternoon,
after taking in the fair.
Dr. Hugh Logan and Mr. Hugh Glenn
returned yesterday from Portland, where
they witnessed Elk day at the exposition.
Capt. Wand, of the Regulator, re
turned on last night's train from Port
ladd, where he saw a part of the Elks
celebration.
Mr. VV. J. Peters, advance agent for
Carlton s company or plavers, was 111 1
the city Saturday making arrangements
for billing the town.
Capt. W. J. Johnston, master of the
steamer Dalles City, was in The Dalles
yesterday morning. He returned home
on'the afternoon train.
Mr. Edwin Mass, who is spending the
winter in Portland attending the Uni
versity of Oregon law school, spent Sat
urday ana bunday in The Dalles.
Mr. John Michell returned today from
bis Eastern trip. He greatly enjoyed
nis visit to ins old Home in Wisconsin
Mr. Michell also attended the meeting of
the Kmghta of .Pythias lodge in Salem
Capt. J. H. D. Gray and wife of Astoria
spent Saturday arid Sunday in The
Dalles, returning home by the Regulator
this morning. Capt. Gray is one. of the
committee appointed to secure a testi
monial tor the battleship Uregon.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Keieter of Evandale,
Pennsylvania, arrived on the local train
yesterday for a visit with their son, Mr,
E. Keister.of French & Co,s bank. Mr,
and Mrs. Keister will ionrnev in Califor
nia before returning to their Pennsylva
nia borne.
Airs. a. a. iiogue of .Portland came
up on the Regulator Friday night and
tias been visiting Mr. and Mrs. S. L.
Brooks. From now till Wednesday,
when she will return home, she will
visit at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.
S. Schenck.
Tuesday.
Mrs. A. J. Dufur of Dufur was in the
city yesterday.
H. S. Wilson, Esq., is in Canyon City,
jrrant county, attending court.
Mrs. J. T. Peters and familv left for
Portland on the Regulator this morning
to visit me exposition.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Donnell left for a
trip to Cascades and return on the Reg
ulator this morning.
Mr. C. W. Hemmeway, a representa
tive of the Oregonian, is in the city on
business for that paper.
Robt. Mays, Jr., has returned from a
visit to the metropolis, and left for the
cattle country.
Mr.' John Irvine, a pioneer of the
early '50s, left this morning for Los An
geles, where he will spend the winter.
He was accompanied by his daughter,
Annie.
