This Is Whr Thurston's Recall W
Asked by Gresham.
Washington, March 23. The precise
complaint which was forwarded to the
Hawaiian government, in the customary
manner tbrongh Willis, upon which Mr.
Thurston's recall is requested, stated
that be had made statements to the press
reflecting upon the American minister
at Honolulu, and intended to discredit
bim and impair his usefulness. It is
claimed that when confronted by
Gresham with certain publications of
this character, Thurston acknowledged
himself the source from which the infor
mation had been derived and also ad'
mitted his mistake in giving the matter
pnblicity, and upon this Gresham im
mediately represented to the Hawaiian
republic that Thurston was no longer
welcome in an official capacity in Wash'
ington.
The complaint that Thurston had pub
lished official matters before communi
cating them to the state department,
was considered of secondary importance,
though the administration regarded it
as strange that he should have officially
confirmed the report that the schooner
Walberg had cleared from San Francisco
to land 1000 stands of arms, of which
the Hawaiian government had captured
only 300. It is said the attitude of
Thurston toward Willis alone was the
immediate ground for declaring his offi
cial continuance at Washington no longer
desirable, and upon this representation
the Hawaiian government is relied. upon
to withdraw him.
They May All be Lynched.
Birmingham, Ala., March 25. Isaac
Tankersly, Isham FallB, negroes, are in

upon Mr. and Mrs. John Barr Saturday

at night with his wife, having in his
pocket the proceeds of the days sales.
The couple were attacked by four
negroes, and they were beaten into in
sensibility, Barr being probably fatally
injured. Mrs. Barr identified Tankersly
as one of the assailants, and he confessed,
implicating the other three.

and was given up and told I could not
live. Having Dr. King's New Discovery
in my store, I sent for a bottle and be
gan its use, and from the first dose be

bottles was up and about again. It is
worth its weight in gold. We won't

Unmerciful Disaster.
Press advices by steamer from South
Africa contain a story of an extraordi
nary series of fatalities that occured near
Johannesburg, and whereby a promi
nent resident lost his entire family in
the space of a few minutes.
Three of his children, aged respectively
8, 10 and 12 years, left the family farm
house to go to their father, who was in
a field about half a mile distant. On
the way each of the three put their hand
in a crevice of a rock for the purpose of
searching for birds' eggs. The crevice,
however, happened to have been taken
possession ot by a deadly snake, and
each of the children was bitten before it
could withdraw its hand. Two died al
most immediately, while the third man
to crawl back to the house and raise an
alarm.
The mother, frantic with grief, mount
ed a horse, with a view of going for help.
She placed the child in front of her, but
forgot to securely fasten it, and she had
hardly gotten out of the yard when it
fell over to the ground, sustaining a
fracture of the skull which caused in
stant death. The mother re-entered
the bouse with the body, only to find
that within a few moments her fourth (
and youngest child had been drowned
by falling into a cistern.
The mother is now down with brain
fever, and the original family of six
there is only the father to tell the re'
markable story.

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least one
dreaded disease that science has been
able to cure in all its stages, and -that is
Catarrh. Hall's Cure is the only posi
tive cure known to the medical frater
nity. Catarrh being a constitutional
disease, requires a constitutional treat
ment. Hall's Catarrh Cure is taken in
ternally, acting directly upon the blood
and mucous surfaces of the system,
thereby destroying the foundation of the
disease, and giving the patient strength
by building up the constitution and as
sisting nature in doing its work. . The
proprietors have so much faith in its
curative powers, that they offer One
Hundred Dollars for any case that it
