The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the state of the rental housing market in The Dalles. Oregon House Bill 4006, passed during the 2018 Legislative Session, identified a number of Oregon communities as “severely rent burdened cities.” A “severely rent burdened city” is a city where at least 25 percent of renter households are paying more than 50 percent of household income on gross rent. The Dalles has been identified as a “severely rent burdened city,” with 29.4 percent of renter households (2,189 total renter households) rent burdened.
