TD led 22-20 at the half and both teams added 11 points each in third quar- ter, but the Hawks rode an 18-17 fourth-quarter output to seal the deal. Conner Cummings paced TD with 18 points, Jacob Hernandez tacked on 13, and Styles DeLeon checked in with nine as the team made 19 field goals, five 3-pointers, and connected on 8 of 17 free throws. Dalles Seufalemua scored three points, and the quartet of Shane Floyd, Skyler Leeson, Spencer Taylor and Aidan Telles had two points apiece. McMinnville drilled 20 field goals, five 3-pointers, and went 3 of 10 from the line, with Jarrett Boumann leading with 23 points. Contributed photo TD girls battle illness, show heart By Ray Rodriguez The Dalles Chronicle The Nike Interstate Shootout was a sure fire test for The Dalles Riverhawks girls basketball team in their quest for success. In three games versus top-flight 6A and 5A and solid out-of-state squads, they were hampered by ill- ness, but still showed heart. Taking on national- ly-ranked Desert Oasis, of Las Vegas, Sunday, the team had leads in parts of the first and second quarters, but fell behind 27-15 at the half and were outscored 35-15 in the second stanza in their 62-30 loss in Lake Oswego. Jenna Miller led the way with 14 points, Kilee Hoylman added seven, and both Rainie Codding and Pearl Guzman tallied three points each. Lauryn Belanger scored two points and Gus Decker wrapped up the scoring leaders with one point. TD (5-4 overall) played the No. 11-ranked 6A program, Barlow, on Monday afternoon. In Friday’s tournament opener against Madison, Hoylman dropped 17 points, Miller added 15 and Belanger scored eight points to lift The Dalles to a 52-34 victory. Guzman chipped in six points and the tandem of Decker and Mercy I’aulualo were good for three points each. The Following day, TD enjoyed a seven-point lead through the fourth quarter and eventually led by three points with 40 seconds remaining when Decker, a sophomore, sank two pressure free throws to make it a five- point edge. Later, the 6A Lady Lakers made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to make it a 41-39 final in second-day tourna- ment action. Hoylman and Codding tal- lied 11 points each, Belanger added eight and Miller fin- ished with seven points. Dufur boys team is riding a hot streak Team builds win streak up to four Rodriguez ■ Ray The Dalles Chronicle Since starting out 0-4, the Dufur Rangers have caught fire, with four victories in a row capped by wins over Joseph and Days Creek Thursday and Friday. In Thursday’s home game against No. 6-ranked Joseph, Dufur held a 23-22 halftime advantage and landed the knockout blow with an 18-12 third-quarter spurt. Trey Darden scored 13 points and Cooper Bales had 12 points to pace the Rangers, who hit 18 field goals and one 3-pointer and sank 14 of 18 free throws. Jacob Peters reeled off eight points, Josh Taylor wound up scoring seven points and Gabe Petroff add- ed four points.
