The first Indian School
in the Oregon country was
in 1834 at the Lee Mission
Station on the
Wallamite
River on the bottom land
known
to the
Calipooia
Indians and the French-
Cenadians of 1825 as Che
mawa .
The first graves at the
Mission site are in this
Cemetery along with Indian
students graves up to the
late 1840’s.
This
first
Indian
School became
Willamette
University.
Slave Auction
Big Steve shows off the

Juniors’
highest-priced
slave.
The Junior Slave Auc
tion was held November 5,
1975.
There
were
23
slaves which were sold by
the auctioneer
who
was
big bad Mr. Surmon.. For
their great efforts they
made the sum of
$41.44
and really put forth good
responses.
The
highest
bid for a slave was for
Big Steve Filkins for the
the
sum of $8>00, and
highest triplet was Penny
Hughes, Sue Decker
and
Theresa Bailer, who were
sold
for
the, price of
$7.00.
The highest couple
wa& Mike Semoe and
Lew
George for the outrageous
price
of $4.25.
The
lowest price
sold was a
three way ti e . It was for
50i for Randy Lewis,Merv
White and
Gary Brown.
