Braves Win Homecoming
The Big Red rolled to a 20-14
Homecoming win over LaSalle on
October 19.
LaSalle took a 6—u lead in the
first quarter, but the Braves came
back on Lindsey Howtopat’s one-
yard run. Gary Abrahamson scored
the conversion.
This gave the
Braves and 8—6 lead.
Gary also scored on a 73-yard run
after taking a short pass from How
topat. Keith Kerwin galloped for a
39-yard touchdown in the third
quarter.
For the season Gary scored 28
points on four touchdowns and two
two-point conversions. Lindsey had
24 points on four t.d .’s. Jimbo Abra
hamson and Keith Kerwin each had
12 points, Jim on two touchdowns
and Keith on one touchdown and
three conversions.

The Braves finished the season
with a 2—6 record (plus a forfeit
over Gervais). Jimbo Abrahamson
rushed for a total of 337 yards in 46
plays, averaging 7.33 yards a carry.
Gary Abrahamson had 516 yards in
93 plays for an average of 5.55
yards per carry. Keith Kerwin car
ried 74 times for 304 yards, averag
ing 4,11 yards a carry.
Lindsey Howtopat attempted 52
passes, completed 21 for 381 yards
and had only three intercepted.
Rickie McCraigie caught eight pass
es for 165 yards. Gary Abrahamson
got four for 148 yards. Kerwin had
six for 58 and Jimbo two for 17.
Kerwin returned six punts for 67
yards, and Andrew Tooyak six for
86 yards. Lloyd Vincent had 311
yards for 11 punts and Rickie Mc
Craigie 617 yards on 21 punts. Lar-
sky Edwards kicked off 18 times for
497 yards, and Kerwin returned 15
kickoffs for 231 yards and Howto
pat’s four for 114 yards.

Gary and Jimbo Abrahamson were
both picked for the Capital Confer
ence All-Star Football Team.
Gary was chosen on ottense as a
fullback and also made the defensive
team as an end. This year he played
offensive and defensive tackle,
defensive end, linebacker, fullback
and (in practice) quarterback.
He said that his favorite p psition
was defensive end because, “ I like
sacking auarterbacks.”
Jimbo made the all-star unit on
defense as a tackle and made hon
orable mention on offense, also as a
tackle. His favorite p psition was
tackle, although he also played half
back and fullback.
“ Tackle is
where the action is ,” he said.
Both Gary and Jimbo have been
playing football for six seasons,
here and at St. Xaiver Grade School
in Spokane. Football is Gary’s fav
orite sport. Jimbo says it is a toss-
up between football and wrestling.
Both plan to go to college and con
tinue playing.
Bill Sigo and Keith Kerwin also
made honorable mention. Bill was
chosen on defense as a linebacker,
and Keith was named as an of
fensive halfback.

The volleyball teams played their
last game at North Marion Nov. 1.
The varsity beat North Marion by
the scores of 5-15,15-3 and 15-12.
Linda Jane scored 16 points in the
games against North Marion.
The final results of the volleyball
season had varsity winning three
games against Stayton, Gervais
and North Marion. The four games
they lost were to Gladstone, Wood
burn, LaSalle and Cascade.
The jayvees won three from Stay-
ton, Cascade and Gervais. The four
games they lost were to Gladstone,
Woodburn, LaSalle and North Marion.
The girls with the high points in
the jayvee games were Nita Teton
with 31 points; Loretta Penney and
Beverly Tomaskin, 26; Debbie Smith
15; Cemmy Sheoships, 21; Becki
Noyes, 13.
The varsity high scorers were
Linda Jane with 34 points; Sharon
Watt, 33; Ailene Sameuls, 32; Mary
Looney, 20; Lorena Thompson, 24;
Janice Noyes,.18; and.Julie Meanus,
