The Chemawa varsity and jayvee
football teams did not have too good
of a year in the win-loss column, but
the team members put out a good
effort and tried hard in every game.
A lot of the players had very little
experience before this year.
But Coach Lawver said that next
year Chemawa will have a more ex
perienced team that will win a few
games. Some of the players to watch

third place in the State AA Champi
onships at Eugene.
The Braves
finished with 112 points, barely los
ing second place to Scapoose, with
105. Madras won the team title.
Arthur Ambrose was the high fin
isher for the Braves, taking eighth
place. Delbert Okbaok wound up in
eleventh.
The other runners were
Jacob Merculief, Harold Huntington,
Harold Fairbanks, David Enoch,
Mike George and Joe Peters.
Coach Kugie Louis said, “ I was
very happy with the way the boys ran.
The competition was so rough that we
could easily have finished eighth
instead of third.”
Mr. Louis has
another reason to be happy. With the
exception of Harold Fairbanks, the
only senior, the entire team will be
back to try for the title next year.

This year’s Chemawa volleyball
team had a record of 2 wins and 3
losses in their league and 3 wins and
5 losses overall.
Coach Papenfus said, “ Our girl’s
volleyball team is a young team, with
only three seniors, Bernie Robertson,
Mina Bailey and the captain, Margaret
Igkurak. We will miss these girls
next year.”
The other five members of the var
sity squad are Suzie Marchand, Mary
Melivodov, Zoya Melivodov, Melanie
Colwash and Beverly Frank. Playing
for the junior varsity were Verna
Finley, Rose Knight, Janice Noyes,
Karen Pinkham, Ailene Samuels,
Linda Jane, Mary Looney and Susan
Looney.
