Guest Editorial by Mrs. Matt
In the past few years, the numbers
89-10 have seemed to hold magical
power.
Public Law 89-10 provided
money for many extra educational
goodies that we could not otherwise
have had included in 'our school pro
gram. We still have programs and
projects being funded by this special
legislation, but now they are being
called Title 1.
Chemawa’s Title 1 program this
year includes: art instruction, Indian
guest speakers, educational trips,
parent aid to students needing a ssis
tance, additional dormitory aides,
off-campus apartment living, and staff
visits to home areas.
It also provides for the formation
of a Parent Council to serve as an
advisory group on Title 1 projects.
Letters are now being sent to re
presentative parents in the various
agencies to enlist their assistance
by serving as members of Chemawa’s
Title 1 Parent Council. It is hoped
that this group of parents will meet
at Chemawa two times during the
school year to review our Title 1
activities and serve as two-way com
municators between the school and
the home areas in matters pertaining
to Title 1.
The Center-
Keep It Clean
The entire student body worked
really hard to get the new Student
Center. Now it is there for the stu
dents to use. It is a great privilege
for us to have, but we must take
responsibility too.
Lately our Student Center shows
evidence of much negligence of our
responsibilities.
The tables are
marked up, there is messy litter on
the carpets and our garbage cans
remain empty.
Listen , students! Whose respon
sibility is it for us to get up and get
ourselves ready for school in the
morning? It’s our own duty, huh?
Well, the care of the Center is our
duty too. If we want to keep the
Center open for our use, we must
take care of it.
We worked hard to get this Student
Center to use this year. L et’s not
let all that hard work be for nothing.
L et’s save the Center for others to
use in future years, as a gift from us.
L et’s show respect for something
that means a lot to students and
staff, and show our pride in the Cen
ter by taking care of our respon
sibilities.
If we don t do it, it won’t get done

Daily activities and student morale
at Brewer Hall have picked up con
siderably since the beginning of the
year. The staff report that the stu
dents are meeting the demands set
up by the dorm.
Three new members have been
added to the staff recently. They
are Mr. Baird, Mr. Lestenkoff, and
Mr. Seton. The Brewer staff are glad
to have these new members. They
are also happy to have Dave Titus
back from the hospital.

Report From Student Council
The Student Council meets every
Wednesday night after school in the
conference room of the guidance build
ing. The meetings are open to staff
and students. Representatives from
classes, dorms and organizations
make up the council.
The seniors report that they are
working on announcement designs.
They are also planning to buy senior
keys. The sophomores have a new
representative, Iris Big Spring.
The student council officers have
decided to serve without pay for one
night a week in the Student Center
cafe. Their purpose in doing this is
to help reduce the amount that the
center has to pay for waitresses and
cooks.
The council has been having trou
ble with representatives not coming to
meetings. Council members decided
to inform class, dorm and organization
advisors that representatives who
don’t come to meetings must either be
told to come or be replaced.
