Heckman Named
Valedictorian
CHEMAWA, OREGON MAY 1971 NUMBER 6
Williams, Marchand Picked To Run Council
Charles Heckman and David Andrew
will be the Valedictorian and Saluta-
torian for the 1971 Chemawa gradua­
tion ceremonies.
They were selected on the basis of
their grade point averages. Charles
Heckman came up with a grade point
average of 3.62 for all his classes
since his Freshman year.
David
Andrew totaled 3.41 which was the1
second highest 4-year average in the
Senior class.
Olinga Nicholi also finished with a
g.p.a. of 3.41, but was a thousandth
of a point behind Andrew, in one of
the closest contests for Salutatorian
ever held.
Sixteen Seniors who finished with
grade point averages of 3.0 and above
will wear honor cords at the gradua­
tion. They are, in the order of their
finish: Charles Heckman, David An­
drew, Olinga Nicholi, Rose Fitka,
Timothy Hoover, Paul Dock, Lorantie
Myers, Abraham George, Nick Phillip,
Sharon Lestenkof, John Martin, Mar­
garet Samson, Payne Brower, Marion
Shavings, Anna Williams, and Evelyn
Wassillie.
Chemawa is proud of these sixteen
and all the other students who worked ;
so hard to graduate in the Class of'
1971.

The banquet for the graduating
class took place on April 30th in the ’or 1971-72 were formally sworn in at
Grand Ballroom of the Marion Hotel. i formal dinner on May 5th at McNary

The Louis Gervais Service Award
was presented to six students at the
same dinner ceremony. The award is
based on outstanding service and con­
tribution to the dormitories and dormi­
tory life. The winners were: Herbert
Sheldon and Jim Aleck from McNary;
Don Black from Brewer; Tim Hoover
from Mitchell (Honor Dorm); Dorothy
Weston from Winona; and Ethel Big
Spring from McBride.
Several guests and Chemawa’s Act­
ing Superintendent, Mr. A1 Ouchi, were
introduced at the banquet.
