STUDENTS LEARN COMPUTER OPERATIONS

-to o l i s the computer. By Watching movies,
taking a f ie ld tr ip and actu al ‘hands on’
use o f a computer, they have found that I t
is a very simple machine th a t can do very
hard problems, ,i f i t is programmed correctly.
They have a ls o >found th a t a computer never
makes a m istake, but people who use the
computers can make quite a few.
The class is sharing a small ECP-18 computer
with several other schools in th is area. The
computer i s made a v ailab le by the Computer
I n s tr u c tio n Network, which i s f e d e r a lly
funded. In addition to the ECP-18 computer,
the stu d e n ts are using a te le ty p e machine
th a t ii? connected to a one m illio n d o lla r
computer iri S e a ttle , Washington.
Two members of la s t year’ s computer class,
Bert Greist and Prank E tcitty , have completed
an a d d itio n a l course a t Salem T echnical-
Vocational College in Salem. These students
attended^class fo r 3 hours every Wednesday
n ig h t fo r teft weeks. The course gSv'e the
students a good introduction about how the
computer f i t s into the Business World.
Most of the students in the computer class
seem to agree th a t th e computer is both a
very in teresting machine and a very fru s tra t
ing one when i t won’ t work the way they want..
