To date, two-hundred and ten senior boys and
g ir ls have had an opportunity to p a rtic ip a te
in Chemawa’ s Off-Campus L iv in g program .
Ninety boys and one hundred twenty g irls have
had to do th e ir own cookin'g, ironing, clean
ing, shopping and arranging fo r th e ir tra n s
p o rta tio n to and from school. The stu d e n ts
liv e o f f campus fo r a period o f two weeks.
They liv e by the buddy system - taking care
o f each o th er - and are placed on the honor
system.
The program was in itia te d and is supervised
by Chemawa’ s Guidance Department and is very
popular with the stu d e n ts . The program i s
considered by a l l to be a big su ccess. The
g ir ls are encouraged to e n te rta in members of
the fa c u lty as guests once or tw ice during
th e ir apartment liv in g experience. -
I t i s f e l t th a t the stu d e n ts w ill get an
idea of what i t i s lik e to liv e in an a p a rt
ment; h a n d le t h e i r own f in a n c e s ; how to
r e p o r t fo r school on tim e; how to manage
th e ir o ff-d u ty time; and, how to budget for<
food buying in larg e superm arkets.
