"HAPPY HOME"
Chemawa means, “Happy Home”.
Our campus has become our sec
ond happy home. As we live here
on the campus we find certain
places that we especially like. As
for me, I like to walk around the
administration building and look
at the pretty flowers growing
around it. The blooms are very
colorful. I think that everyone ad
mires beautiful flowers.
Even though we lost many of our
big trees in the Columbus Day
storm we still have the birds to
watch as they fly around the re
maining fir and maple trees.
On lovely or sunny days I like to
sit on the benches beneath the
trees and watch what goes on
around the campus. You see some
people reading or just sitting on
the benches resting. You can see
the boys and girls and hear them
talking and laughing as they walk
along. If you look up you can see
the leaves moving as the wind
plays around them. Look down
and you see the lush green grass.
As I sit on my bench I hope
that Chemawa will never have an
other storm, like the hurricane
that we did have, and spoil the
beauty spots that have been left
for us to enjoy.

We all like to sing Christmas Car
ols. Our class went to Miss Kring
lee’s classroom to sing Christmas
Carols with Miss Kringlee’s class.
Miss Johnson, Miss Olds and Miss
Koske came in to hear us sing.
They enjoyed singing some songs
with us.

The Rules for Keeping a Job
STUDENT COUNCIL
The student council serves a very
useful purpose in our school life.
I am a representative from our
room. I attend the meeting of the
student council. There are repre
sentatives from each classroom.
We bring suggestions to the
meetings for the improvement of
our school. We discuss needed
changes in our school’s activities.
The student council helps to im
prove our school in many ways. We
are eager to help when we see the
need to help. We learn to take re
sponsibilities and carry them out.
This helps us to grow and develop.
It helps us to meet new responsi
bilities that may come in the future
years.
I will try my best to help our
president in many ways. I am cer
tain that the other representatives
will help, too.
Do you need our help? If you do,
just call us. Will you? /

IT MIGHT BE YOU!
Re careful when you cross the
street or railway tracks. Look both
ways. Stop when you see the red
light. Don’t cross when the red
light is on. Don’t run across the
railroad tracks when you see a
train coming. Don’t run down the
stairs, you might fall and break
your arm or leg. Don’t run in the
hallway. You might slip and hurt
yourself.

The paper, Chemawa American,
tells news about our school. It tells
what has happened in the past two
months. Chemawa American is a
form of a newspaper. It is printed
four times during the school year.
It is of interest to the many stu
dents here at Chemawa and to
former students of Chemawa. The
Chemawa American is written by
students. Students should do their
best writing for their school paper.
Students should enjoy writing for
the Chemawa American.

I hope that every one of us here
at Chemawa are learning things
that, will Jielp us here now andin
the future, when we will be out on
our own earning our living.
We must remember that we are
not sent to Chemawa to school just
to have fun, have a bed, food, get
an education and have the free use
of public utilities.
I have already learned the rulés
for keeping a job. The first thing
to do is start to work on time. Do
your work the way the employer
wants it done. Do not waste your
time on the job. If you finish your
job and see something else to be
done go ahead and do it, don’t al
ways wait to be told. If you do not
understand what you are to do, ask
questions. Always be honest and
trustworthy. Dress right for the job
you are doing. When you have vaca
tion return to work on time.
These rules are important to all
of us when we go out on a job.
There must be no end of trying to
improve ourselves. If we try to ah
ways improve and follow these
rules we will all be able to keep
our jobs.

KEEP OUR CAMPUS CLEAN
Do we students, at Chemawa
School, keep Our campus clean?
I would say that we do not or
else there would not be papers,
broken glass, sticks, pop bottles,
rags and other trash on the cam
pus.
All this litter makes our campus
look bad. It isn’t nice to see trash
all over the campus.
We should all dig in and help to
clean up our campus and then
keep it clean. When any of us are
walking around the campus and
see trash as papers, pop bottle, or
other litter, pick it up and put it
in the trash can. Our campus real
ly needs a good going over and
general clean up.
Once in a while ask yourself
these questions. What am I doing
to help keep our Chemawa campus
clean? Do I throw trash on the
campus?
The looks of our campus can be
improved. It will take coopera
tion to improve it. Let us all work
together, get our campus clean,
and keep it that way.
