Fashion Show
Sewing classes taught by Miss
Phoebe McQuilkin, gave a fashion
show at an assembly held in the
auditorium on March 11. Back
ground music, colorful dresses, the
personality of the girls, and a skit
which unified the whole, made it
an excellent show.
The setting was a cruiser called
the S. S. Brazil. In the first scene
the eighth grade girls were in a
stateroom having their breakfast.
These girls modeled housecoats,
and the maids serving them, mod
eled skirts and aprons.
In the second scene the ninth
and tenth grade girls were on the
deck, chatting in groups, many of
them carrying sports equipment.
They modeled skirts and blouses
and dresses that could be worn for
summer recreation.

New Councilors
At the March 4 meeting of the
Winona Hall house council, new
councilors were welcomed: Daisy
Yazzie, leader for unit 7, Katie
Yazzie, leader for unit 8, and their
assistant, Etta Tsosie. Also pres
ent were Peggy Henthorne and
Jane Badoni, assistants for Char
lotte Runningcrane and Sarah
Lewis, who were in the hospital.
Pastimes Are Many
The girls at Winona Hall are
well taken care of in the way of
amusements. From 6:00 to 7:00

They posed as celebrities on board
the S. S. Brazil, a doctor, a singer,
a dancer, etc.
Girls took turns at the micro
phone, describing each garment as
it was modeled. All the things were
pretty and the girls wore them well.

had all watched our brothers or
fathers play the game but had
never really taken interest in it.

Several Chemawa students have
had the opportunity of working on
Saturdays. This is very good expe
rience for us; it gives us training
and also a chance for earning
spending money.
People who have employed stu
dents report that they have done
very good work. If Chemawa stu
dents show that they are capable
and willing to do a good day’s
work, people will hire us.

McBride Hall Elects
The McBride Hall house council
elects new officers at every first
meeting of the month. This gives
the girls practice in holding differ
ent offices.
The March officers are Isabelle
Phillips, president; Avalon Ken
nedy, vice-president; Barbara Wa
pato, secretary; and Joan Harwood,
sergeant-at-arms.
The truck detail is seldom heard
of, so I thought it would be a
good subject to write about.
This procedure is followed every
day excepting Sundays: we start
out by hauling the boys’ and the
hospital’s laundry; then we haul
trash from the dormitories, em
ployees’ quarters, and vocational
buildings.
Boys who work on the truck
detail are Randolph Wilson, James
Switzler, Cyril LaClair, and How
ard George. The driver is Mr.

There have been many boys and
girls in the hospital for colds,
merely because they haven’t worn
their coats or something on their
heads. Now, you wouldn’t want to
be one of these, would you? Of
course not; no one wants to stay in
the hospital and miss all the fun
his friends are having while he is
lying in bed! Let’s all see what
we can do about that problem.
Let’s wear our wraps all the time,
and remind others to wear theirs.
