Nancy Butler

Nancy Butler: Nancy is a Grande
Ronde Indian from Siletz, Oregon.
This is hei fifth year attending Che
mawa.
During this time she has
acquired the nickname of "Cupcake."
Nancy is a member of the student
council, vice-president of Winona
House Council, member of the fi
nance committee, square dance club,
treasurer of the Senior Misses Club
and song leader.
Her favorite saying is "Ah Flip!''
Her favorite food is candy. Her fav
orite pastime is sleeping. Her favor
ite sport is basketball.
Rodney Davis: A Yurok Indian
from California, has attended Che
mawa five years.
Rodney is an
active member at the auto shop, a
member of the Church basketball
league, also a member of McNr^
House Council, was captain of th°
football team and is vice-president
of the Letterman's Club.
His favorite food is steaks; favorite
snort, football; favorite pastime,
thinking of the girls.
Group I and II were entertained last
time.
At the McBride house meetings on
Monday nights we have seen some
good movies. We saw "Shanghai,"
"Aqua Frolics,” "Alpine Climbers,"
"The Fox Hunt" and "Washington,"
this month. When we do not have the
movies we have programs, the 5th
and 6th group put on a good pro
gram last time. Miss Challis said
she would bring some visitors to our
next program because they are so
good.
Saturday, March 1, our fourth
grade girls went to Salem to sing on
Station KOCO. They left at 9:00 in
the morning.
Our matrons were
really busy getting them ready but

Priscilla Jerry: A Kurok Indian
from California who has attended
Chemawa four years. Her nickname
is P. J. Priscilla. She is a member
of the Misses club, Pep club, and
Square Dancing club.
Her favorite saying, using all the
big words in the dictionary; her fav
orite pastime, studying; favorite
foods, all of them.

Eleanor Foster
Eleanor Foster: Eleanor, a Klam
ath Indian from Beatty, Oregon, is
better known as "Weasel." She has
been arcund the campus for four
years. She is president of the Win
ona house council, chairman of the
finance committee, member of the
Catholic choir, student council, Sen
ior Misses, Square Dance club and
Pep club. She is captain of a girls'
team in Intramural league, known as
"The Things" (they have lost all
their games.)
Her favorite saying is "Anything;"
favorite food, ice cream and 'tato
^hips; favorite sport, likes them all;
favorite pastime, loafing.

DR. TISINGER HONORED
Dr. R. M. Tisinger, area education
director of Indian Affairs, Portland,
was honored at a reception spon
sored by Local No. 241, N.F.F.E.
Chemawa Indian school, with all
employees of the school as hosts,
Thursday evening, February 28.
Dr. Tisinger recently returned after
a year in Burma, where he was sent
by UNESCO (United National Edu
cational Scientific Cultural Organi
zation) as head of an educational
mission to study the educational sit
uation and recommend changes.
The group of which Dr. Tisinger
was a member visited 250 schools.
He reports, "The Burmese Education
Program is far from adequate and
perhaps the greatest need is for more
find better qualified teachers."

Col. E. Morgan Pryse, area director.
Allred Hawk: He is better known
as Al to his friends and comes from
the Flathead tribe, Toppenish, Wash
ington. Al has attended Chemawa
three years where he is member of
the Catholic choir, Square Dance
club, McNary house council, a man
ager of basketball team and was a
player on the football team.
Alfred says he hasn't any favorite
saying, or pastime, or sports and
when it comes to foods he likes all
of them.
William Shillal:
Has attended
Chemawa ten years and is a Walla
Walla Indian from Pendleton. He is
called Bill by his many friends.
William is an active member of the
student council, being the president
He is president of the Senior class
and also president of the Lettermen's
club and the Senior larm club, Chief
Judge at McNary hall court, a mem
ber of McNary hall council, also the
student council and captain of the
basketball team.
William says his favorite saying
might be most anything, he likes all
sports, has no favorite, and his fav
orite pastime is eating his favorite
food, which is chicken.
