WINONA HALL
All W inona hall girls w ere sur-r
prised and, h a p p y to find th at W in
o n a hail rooms h a d b e e n new ly
p a in te d w hile the girls w ere hom e
this summer. The new curtains, new
b e d sp re a d s a n d new living room fur
nishings brought forth m an y "oohs
a n d a a h s" a s e a c h girl en te re d the
dormitory a n d w as a ssig n e d to her
room. Everyone is trying, to keep
everything a s pretty a s possible.
O ut of the 180 girls now in W inona
hall, there a re 74 n ew girls w ho h a d
not b e e n in W inona hall before, so
the H ouse Councillors h a d two "G eh
a c q u a in te d " p arties for the new girls
in the recreatio n room. G am es,, mix
ers a n d d an cin g w ere the en te rta in
m ent a n d refreshm ents w ere served.

w hile Julia Sakota, N ancy Butler,
E leanor C harley a n d Joan S icadè
took care of the refreshm ents; Tul-
lu lah Tulee w elcom ed all the girls
into the W inona hall family. Every
one h a d a good time.

hall.
The various Units h a v e sta rte d on
their p arties, inviting g u ests from
M cNary hall. Units II, V a n d VI h av e
h a d theirs a n d rep o rted lots to e a t
a n d a lot of fun.
The girls I a re enthusiastic ab o u t
ea rn in g points for their athletic
a w a rd s a n d a re " e a g e r b e a v e rs"
for intram ural a s w ell a s the other
point ea rn in g gam es. So far, "Kick
Ball" . a n d "Nation. Ball" a re the
favorites.
, 'The W inona hall flower g a rd e n
h a s b e e n pretty a n d the m any b o u
q u ets in the living room h a v e b e e n
enjo yed b y all the girls. W e will b e
sorry to see the flowers die. O ther
p laces on the cam pus, h a v e also e n
jo y ed them.

job of picking out som e good ones

Just a b o u t everyone d an ces in the
”rec room" every night after supper
a n d lots, of "fancy steps" a re b e in g
learn ed , so w e're g la d to g et the
n ew records.
BOYS' DEPARTMENT
M any new faces w ere seen am ong
the M cNary hall boys w hen school
o p e n e d this fall. They, cam e from
various p la c e s in the northw est with
a la rg e nu m b er com ing from Mon
ta n a , New Mexico a n d Arizona. The
old C h e m a w a stu dents w elcom e
th ese new -com ers to McNary a n d
hope they wilt:--enjoy---their;-school
work here.
Soon after' school started m any of
the boys could b e se e n c h asin g the
pigskin on the football field. M any
n ew p lay ers a re on the team this
y ear, in fact, a b o u t one-half of the
team is new boys.
The boys a re ho u sed in three
bu ildings this y ear, the sam e a s last
y ear; g ra d e s one through six in
Mitchell hall, g ra d e s seven, eight
a n d N avajo boys u n d er sixteen
y e a rs of a g e in Brew er hall, w hile
M cNary hall is the hom e for boys in
O regon
McBRIDE HALL
School opened. W e w ere very h a p
p y to b e b a c k a t McBride .hall—our
hom e for an o th er year! W e w ere
very g la d to se e Mrs. Reifel, Mrs.
A shcutt a n d Mrs. Shoem ate. W e also
a re g la d to see the new girls th at w e
have- here this y ear, also our old
friends, the girls w ho w ere here
la st year.
O ut of the 93 girls in McBride hall,
these girls w ere chosen to b e officers.
They a re going to try h a rd to b e
officers throughout the w hole school

us ab o u t b e in g good citizens so that
w e w ould h av e a h a p p y y ear, then
w e sa n g songs. W e h a v e h a d one
movie n ia h t a n d two sta g e shows.

G roup VI put on the other. They
w ere really good.

b e c a u se of their good citizenship.

W e h a v e a pian o this y e a r a n d
w e think it is wonderful.
W e h a v e a lot of fun along with
our work a n d w e a re all trying to
work h a rd a n d b e good so this y e a r
will b e a good year.
