Basketball Review
Although Chemawa dropped its first and third games
to the strong Dayton team our hoop artists have done
well, winning all other games played, including a
Marion "B" league encounter with Hubbard. With
Jackson and Crain on the sidelines in the Hubbard
game Chemawa had to fall back on the "B" team for
substitutes.
Omar Winnishut, starting forward, has been retired
from the team as he has now reached the age limit
for high school competition.
The Yakima Indians will be Chemawa's opponents
on Christmas day.

AUTO SHOP SETTING UP ENGINE LABORATORY
The auto shop has a job of putting a lawn sweeper
on a V-8 Ford chassis. This is going to be quite a job.
The shop has an engine with a battery electrical
system so the class may see how a car runs and how
the ignition system operates. They also have another
type of engine, a magneto engine. This engine is off
an old combirie* machine. It is to be fixed up like the
other engine. They are making trans-rear axle cut
aways so the mechanics can see how the trans and
rear axle operates.
PEP CLUB ASSEMBLY
There was an assembly held in the auditorium Fri-
:day, Dec. 19. A skit was put on by the Chemawa Pep
Club. Supt. Kelley gave a talk in which he told of
things that could be corrected for better behavior in
the auditorium.
The new basketball coach, Mr. Kettleson was intro
duced and the basketball boys were called upon the
stage and cheered by the audience.

FOURTH GRADE ASSEMBLY
A Thanksgiving Assembly sponsored by the Fourth
grade and their teacher, Mrs. Mason, was given Nov.
26.
Two plays, "The Pioneers" and "The Pilgrims," were
given. Songs sung by the entire class were "I Love My
Rooster," "Father We Thank Thee," and "A Lone Pump
kin Grew."
Solos were sung by two of the fourth grade students,
"We Are Thankful" by Christine Thompson and
"Thanksgiving Brings Fruit Cake" by Albert Doney.
Carpenters are working on the foundations for a new
barn to house the animals of the grade projects.

All-School Christmas Assembly
The all-school Christmas assembly was held in the
auditorium December 21. The orchestra, composed of
Richard Hillaire, clarinet, Omer Winnishut, trombone,
George Cagey, cornet, Thomas Lopez, xylophone, and
Vernon Lane, drums, played "White Christmas" and
"Silent Night." The girls' chorus sang "White Christ
mas" with the orchestra.
The sixth grade girls gave a choral reading of "The
Night Before Christmas" illustrated with projected pic
tures. This was followed by the assembly singing
"Don't Wait 'Til the Niaht Before Christmas" and "Santa
Claus Is Coming to Town." Then Carl Felsman sang
"In the Old Time Runs the Stcry," with everyone join
ing in on the chorus.
The seniors presented a double quartet singing
"Winds Through the Olive Trees." A mixed chorus
followed with "The First Song of Christmas." The
girls' chorus then sang "There's a Song in the Air."
The tenth and eleventh grade girls contributed "No
Candle Was There and No Fire."
The program concluded with the student body sing
ing "O, Little Town of Bethlehem." "I Heard the Bells
on Christmas Day," and "Oh, Come All Ye Faithful."
The singing was directed by Miss Sylvia Dorweiler
with Miss Mary Dorweiler accompanying on the piano.
HIGH SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
On November 12, the Senior class presented the first
assembly. The program consisted of musical umbers
and a one-act play. The play, "Pretty Girl Wanted,"
highlighted the program as Blossom Rose, Levi George,
answered an ad for a pretty girl.
Not to be outdone the Junior class held an assembly
on Dec. 3. Their program took the form of a radio
studio and a program sponsored by the "Double
Trouble Blow a Bubble Chewing Gum Company."
The Juniors found their talent in the audience and
presented a pleasing program of musical numbers and
skits.
AG CLUB
The Ag club, one of the most active clubs in Che
mawa, sponsored a box social on the night of Decem
ber 12. Refreshments, pop, coffee and dancing were
enjoyed throughout the evening. Dale Lopez won the
"Homeliest Man" contest and Juanita McWevitt won
the "Prettiest Girl" award.
The Ag club donated $11.50 to the school for the
purpose of buying gifts for the students.
The officers for the Ag club are as follows: President,
Glen Brown; vice-president, Delford Crain; secretary
treasurer, Al. Slickpoo; Sergeant-at-arms, Victor Jack-
son; Sponsor, Mr. Wright Noel.
The club plans on taking up hand craft work and
practicing making leather bill folds, belts, etc.
